Here is a great pic of Louis Armstrong. Can you ID Satchmo's gear ?

100% sure that's either an Eico tube amp,or pre-amp,possibly an early mono version?

I'd venture a guess those are either Ampex or Philip's reel to reels, and possibly an early Thorens tt,but might be another mechanical beast,my friend restored years ago,but the name escapes me right now?.....I've seen that speaker a long time ago,but can't place it either, thinking it may be a Mono system?

I like his music and he is a lovable character ,notice how he wears his socks rolled down.LOL. Obviously that kind of gear was costly back then most likely high end for the times.I read he had chronic lip sores and blisters from playing trumpet.

At that level, mono systems were proudly called hi-fi systems.

Cheers,

In this pic it looks like he has a Henri Selmer B-flat trumpet in his hands, he also played a Cornet...

Grommes made amps/preamps/int amps which look like what is sitting beside the TT.

The portable R2Rs look like Philips EL3542s or Norelco 300s.

Yes, mono. I have one of those on a shelf downstairs.
