Not a record review but Gore Vidal said Myra Breckenridge was about as funny as a child molester.
Prince said " Michael Jackson's album was called BAD because there wasn't enough room on the cover for the word "Pathetic".
I've forgotten who said it but this star was asked about the "new super group" featuring Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham and said they'd go over like a lead balloon.
The band heard the quote and named themselves Led Zepplin in his honour.

A brutal review indeed.

I heard about 2 minutes of one if their songs in a video on yootoob... and quickly moved on before any lingering memories could be formed.

I once read a one-line review of a Bon Jovi album that said "There are two kinds of people in the world; those who like Bon Jovi … and guys."

Given that most punk music sounds like the band is mad at their instruments you probably confused the audience by playing a song with actual lyrics that they could clearly understand.

There is a semi-famous instance where the musician got the last laugh on the reviewer.

German musician Max Reger did not appreciate a negative review of his work that was published in a newspaper in 1906. In response, he wrote a short letter to the editor of the newspaper (in German):

"I am sitting in the smallest room of my house. I have your review in front of me. In a moment it will be behind me!"

I think you missed the whole point of it. We didn't care to play well, and most of us could play much better than we did. It was all about getting buzzed and getting laid ... and playing well enough buzzed in order to accomplish the latter. Nobody ever expected a Grammy.

I wouldn't say that you were too pretty to hurt, but you were certainly to pretty to go to jail.

The band heard the quote and named themselves Led Zepplin in his honour.

That would be Who drummer, Keith Moon.... Page reportedly spelled it Led so there would be no confusion it was lead the metal, not lead as in lead guitar.
