I’ve been using my Oppo 105 directly into my amp for a number of years streaming Tidal, with great success. Thinking maybe it’s time to upgrade the Oppo to something else.

I’m lost with all the new options available....my wish list Tidal MQA, quality DAC & quality preamp all in one unit. Able to control the unit with a app from my IPad just as I do with my Oppo.

I don’t want to beak the bank($2000-3000) but want excellent sound quality. It will be used with a Bryston 4b3 & Magnepan 3.7i

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

How about this?

https://us.auralic.com/products/altair

It seems to meet your requirements. Tidal MQA, a solid DAC and an app.

I am currently using Naim Unitiqute 2 and like it very much. It has a built in amp section that you may choose to skip via pre-amp out to amplifier. All three sections of the unit (dac, pre-amp, amp) have their own separate power supply. Streaming Tidal, Spotify and local network files works flawlessly either via native Naim app, or via Tidal/Spotify connect. It even has a built in FM tuner! The amp section I find a great convenience if you like to try different amps, meaning you can sell your current amp and still have a fully operating system while searching for the new amp. Or, you may choose to skip even the pre-amp section and use Naim only as streamer/DAC. Or, you can skip the DAC via digital out and use Naim only as a streamer. So many options and they all work well and simple. I love it.
Prior to this I've used Cambridge Audio 851D which is a superb DAC, in my view, but its all digital pre-amp section was not to my liking. Similar results with Chord Mojo, amazing DAC but also digital pre-amp.

Nice unit but he wants a pre amp in the same unit.

Checkout the new Dac from ifi-audio. A streamer/Dac/Pre-amp with a tube/ss stage. $3500.

A used PS Audio device could be in the cards...might need to bump up the budget a touch but definitely worthwhile (in my experience).

I have been using a Cambridge Audio 851N. Great Dac, filters, exceptionnal hefty build for the price, a very nice screen with dimmers, digital preamp, Tidal, Spotify and thousands of Web radio stations.

You might want to listen to this before spending more....

If you could stretch your budget a bit, PS Audio Directstream, or NAD M12. The software (BluOS) on the NAD is one of the best around.

I’ve been looking at the PS Audio, the Nad also looks very promising.
The Oppo has served me very well, but unfortunately Oppo is no longer
supporting the 105 so its end is near.

I'm trying to do the same thing... but coming from a much lower place (Apple Airport Express)
I want to upgrade to Tidal and get the most of it. I have no desire to get into downloading and managing HiRes files, I just want to keep it simple, and use get a device to stream Tidal, and have RCA output to plug in to my integrated amp.

Are we looking for the same thing?

There seems to be so few choices in the lower price range, <$500.

I found the Yamaha ap-s303
https://ca.yamaha.com/en/products/audio ... oduct-tabs

Does anyone know if this is a good choice? What other alternatives should I consider?

Thanks

Seems neither the Oppo or the Yamaha can handle the Tidal MQA Dukes.

I did find the Bluesound Node 2i that appears to fully fit the bill. $599.

I’ll report in on how it goes.

Loving my Linn Majik DSM. Pre-amp, streamer and amp ( which can be turned off) plus MM pre-amp ( upgradable to MC). I have had mine for 3 years. Used units start at about $2000, depending on gen. Tidal, Qbuz, internet radio all there and the software for apple and all other apps are great. I stream from my phone, tablet and computer...what ever is more handy.

It also ties in my Ripnas, cable TV, Apple tv, DVD player. Everything gets played through the linn and the system.

Great piece of gear.
