Here’s a couple of photos of some custom enclosures I made for my Tannoys. These are for my second system (note the kids toys everywhere). These were made by a guy called Maurice Bourassa who I can highly recommend in the Vancouver area. They are awesomely made and braced. PM me if you want Maurice’s contact info.

you're going over and into the deep end on this, aren't ya?

So how do these boxes sound compared to the ones you took the drivers out of?

I go all in, no need for half measures. In a few weeks I’ll have three pairs of 15” Tannoy spanning53 years of history. So far I would say there is a distinct tightening up of the bass, less boom. The key thing is the drivers sit higher so the presentation makes more sense. Also, the driver was occluded by furniture before. It’s alittle early though for conclusions.

Here they are with grills.

They look super! And I am glad the sound is even more pleasing. Good work!

Not a huge interest in these but for the record the taller but deeper design with better bracing has produced a leaner sound. There is some box resonance but when coupled with the Leak Stereo 20 these monitor golds in their new enclosures are producing the most jaw droppingingly engaging sound I’ve heard. I’m listening to William Butt playing the final Passacaglia from Brittens cello suites. They convert the despair and depth with preternatural intensity.

My very first experience with Tannoys was a factory/custom comparison done back in the late '70s. There was no comparison. Tannoy seem to build their cabinets with the sole purpose of providing a shipping container for their drivers.

How many litres are they. What insulation was used. Is the interior just one big box. You can always install a small electric fence around them to keep the critters away. hint hint. Use low voltage.

Huh? Sorry, the hint was a little too subtle.

No they aren’t just a big box. They have a shelf brace plus plenty of angle braces tieing the corners together. I reused the lining from the original Tannoy enclosures I had plus some carpet underlay for less critical areas. They’re about 200L.

Those are the "Arden" boxes, and I suspect the recently reissued Arden's are the same.

I have that box in 'shop' form, no veneer, that I been threatening to get finished (or replace with new build) for years.

I moved the drivers/crossovers (rebuilt by me) to a slightly smaller "GFR" (also ported) box ... looked better/sounded different (didn't last long).

As for how I like it, guess I'm in the they convert the despair and depth with preternatural intensity camp
