Just made that observation a moment ago despite just washing/vacuuming that particular record as well as running a carbon brush over it prior to play.

Oh, and I also dropped the stylus in an Onzow type setup before as well.

Nope.....perhaps your table is in a particularly dusty area with a lot of air borne containment and static. Do you have shedding cats or dogs?

A friend called me over to his place because his TT had started to sound dull. Now this fellow puts the stylus cover back on when his table isn't in use. When I took it off there was a compressed dust bunny shaped just like the stylus cover. Needless to say, it didn't take long to solve the dull sound problem. :D

Yes, And its usually white fluff. I think it is coming from the record sleeve. I need to replace all of mine with plastic ones. That might lead to more static...

I was being facetious but it is true the paper inner sleeves get a bit fibrous in approx 40 years. That estimate is based on the observation of aforementioned stylus after playing a copy of Fleetwood Mac Rumours (just checked the sleeve to confirm it is the Anglo spelling) that I acquired I think in 1977 as part of my initial Columbia Record Club purchase.
Will grab yet another stack of the heavy gauge inner sleeves at Sonic Boom this week. I have tons of yellowed paper ones sitting on the floor under the VPI HW16.5

Regards to static, the cleaning solution seems to take care of that extremely well. Wouldn't be surprised if the active ingredient in that stuff you spray on pants was similar.

The MoFi sleeves I use are static free. And dust free as well. Be sure and clean your LPs before placing them in a new sleeve.

It depends on the stylus too. Some of them attract dirt and hair more than others. The AT cart I've had constantly had to be cleaned in between sides of records, the Hana I use now needs cleaning every 3-4 records
I do use a brush on the records before play them every time.

How are you cleaning your records? What formula/solution are you using?

That's about the fastest way to destroy your records....apart from letting your cat play with them. Stylus cannot trace the groove properly, so instead cuts its own path through it.
