A weird thing happened. I just left feedback on an item I paid 500 dollars for. Thing is, the system said the asking price was 1 dollar. It seemed to think this large discrepancy was of some concern and pointed that out to me. Of course there was nothing to tell me what to do about this. No way to change the asking price that I can see. Seems to me this could mess up your blue book plans so thought I'd put it out there. Is this a thing or what?

The seller of the item changed the listed price in the ad to $1.00.

I don't know why some people do that.

The reason is simple...some people don't believe it is anybody else's business to know what an item sold for.

The listed price isn't necessarily the selling price.

Haven't noticed this behavior outside of the arena of audio. Anyhow, seems like an odd practice to me. Do people do the same thing with online ads when it comes to selling cars? ...or anything else for that matter?

Common practice among gear flippers.

Either that or the seller got tired of low ball offers and thought, what the hell, I'll just sell it for a buck.

Still not really getting it. I mean I'M the one posting the price I paid. Not sure the asking price has any relevance, unless we're trying to keep track of the differences between prices asked and prices paid. Plus the guy I dealt with doesn't strike me as a flipper. He has excellent feedback on thirtysome transactions.

It seems that there are dealers who would rather not leave a trace of what their items have been selling for. If values of a certain product move up or down, then they are not bound to their previous price.

From that point of view it does make sense to me.
