My Garrard TT does not have the strobe platter. I have a small strobe disc that I can place on the platter and I am using the electrical adapter below as the light source to adjust the speed. This is not very convenient but it does the job. Is anybody aware of a portable strobe light that can be used for this task? I am looking for a more convenient solution that will not break the bank.

Not sure how much is "not break the bank".

https://www.musicdirect.com/analog-accessories/clearaudio-speed-strobe-light-for-strobe-test-vinyl-lp

or an app.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apkossa.rpmeter&hl=en

Regards
Ohms

Thanks for the links Ohms. I tried the app and it's pretty close. I still prefer the old way as I find it simple and accurate. I might eventually get the Rega strobe kit unless I find something cheaper.

I use this ...ships from a local seller in Ontario...quick ship...I use it with my Lenco's ...works great...

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Digital-Laser-T ... =R40&rt=nc

Quite inexpensive yet does a good job...you put a small piece of reflective tape on the platter edge and aim the Tachometer...I check periodically and adjust the speed (as with Garrard)...I plan on using this to confirm my Garrard 301 speed as well as I too don't have the strobe platter.

This was originally recommended to me from a fellow CAM'er so I can't take the credit...

There are many smartphone strobe light apps available. Most are free of charge

I've used a test record with sin waves and a spectrum analyzer app on the phone. Already had the record...app was free.

The speed in RPM app alternates between 33.3 and 33.4 and I cannot adjust it exactly to 33.3. I also looked at the other digital laser tachometer RPM devices but they all have one digit precision. Isn't the correct speed 33 1/3 = 33.33?

When I use the strobe disc with strobe light I find it easier to adjust the correct speed. I have a feeling that the strobe disc/light is more accurate. Any ideas?

This one gets excellent reviews. Not sure who sells it north of the 49th.

I used to use a paper strobe disk and a regular incandescent bulb.

That's exactly the same one I was just considering.

EDIT: Sorry, this is the one I meant: https://www.musicdirect.com/analog-accessories/kab-speedstrobe

EDIT 2: Never mind, it's the same one.

Spending that kind of money I'd sooner buy a test lp because you can check more than just the speed with it.

I have a couple of LPs with a number of test tracks on them. How does this work?

Ok, This is what I found: https://www.analogmagik.com/speed
and the test record I have, Test 16 is the one mentioned in the link. I will try it and see how it goes. Any suggestion for the spectrum analyzer app?

Interested to know if you find a good app for that! The analogmagik is very pricey.

I just tested Spectroid android app which is free with good ratings and it seems to do a good job. I will spend more time with it tomorrow when everyone at home is awake and report back ;).

Thank you @ripblade for this tip.
