No comments pls just running a poll. No arguments and mud slinging.

Foo is defined as HiFi products and services of no value that rely on audiophiles gullibility.

+1 very expensive foo at that

Answer: Yes

I seem to remember, back in the days of Enid Lumley & Big Ears prosthetics, there were some expensive tin foil like tweaks for sale, discussed in the big 2 US audio mags, that when placed around the room got rid of all your audio nasties for you. Can't remember the product name tho'.

I believe that Foo exists in the high end audio world. No doubt about it.

As a percentage and so on? - there's the rub.

Be careful of the "I'm a hammer - so everything is a nail" problem.

I realize that you stated "no comments", but I have to ask, what is the purpose of such a poll?

It seems, according to your definition, that you're asking if there exist audiophiles that believe every claim made by every brand or service.

..or put another way, asking if there are people who believe that dishonesty is just a myth..?

I don't know why some people treat this hobby like the primary objective is to be the smartest about it. Science vs. subjective taste can't be an argument.

My point is most foo is created by individuals that actually like the hobby, and most that violently object to it live to argue about their "objective" findings.

Who really cares though?

Foo exists everywhere from diets to get rich quick courses. A few people get what they want, a few people get rich and everyone that doesn't get results or can't afford to try gets pissed off.

Excellent statement & my apology to Audio Guy for the following rant-ish:

EDIT - before the rant thought I'd mention that there was a regular selling instruments at the flea market today who was doing a flute/guitar duo of Swingin' Sheppard Blues with a passerby in the 30 degree heat and they were having alot of fun doing it. 8)

I think most are doing it from a perspective of trying to be helpful and the anonymity of the internet allows some to spread their verbal wings a bit & just come across as being a pedantic smartypants. There are some members here who do have alot of system matching or technical experience & many more of us who have a good set of ears & not as much experience with the multitude of gear combinations possible. Some have skin in the game. Most of us don't beyond our investments in our systems.

Foo should to be discouraged and outed by all friends of the audio hobby. Reputation is everything so sing praises where deserved & squash the charlatans. No chunk of dark expensive wood with that's had $50 worth of woodturning done to it is worth $4k USD as a record clamp that is marketed as having the ability to rescue your system from mediocrity. It's just a record clamp that is pretty audio jewellery.
