Looking to get some tunes going out on the deck. Any gone outdoor speaker shopping lately?

Cheers

In my screen room I had an older pair of Yamaha that did very well and still do on the deck at the lake. However I upgraded to some paradigm 370's outdoor speakers and they sound fantastic. the yammies were bought used for cheap and the 'digms were new and on sale but very much worth the upgrade.

if they weren't so large I would have these on my garage to replace my Bose pair. Not many outdoor speakers rate down to 35Hz.https:

For the dollar it is hard to beat RBH or QSC. They both rock!

I use a pair of Boston Acoustics Voyager 60 speakers in the backyard.

Ive used them for quite a few years and they still sound great today. Just remember to take them in during the winter months...

A couple of questions to answer first. How close are your neighbors? How big is your backyard and where would you be sitting in relationship to your speakers? Obviously, if your neighbors are fairly close to you, you probably don’t want to be using volumes that would/could bug them. That of course would be a criteria in choosing the size of speakers relative to your situation. Also, depending on the distance you will be from the speakers will be a factor in the amount of volume you would need to suit your tastes.
There are a few other things to consider, but your answers to the first couple of questions should narrow down your choice. I’m using a pair of Paradigim v7 Stylus speakers and they aren’t too bad for the job they are doing.
Since you’re in Cambridge, you’re welcome to drop by and see and hear what my setup sounds like, just send me a pm if you’re interested.
My dream backyard setup would be a couple of older Cerwin Vegas for that outdoor summer concert sound, but it’s not happening, unless I move to a 100 acre plus farm.

I listened to several a few years ago. Definitive Teck 6500 sounded best, PSB were second

Good friend of mine has had the same outdoor Yamaha's in place for getting on 10 years now. He lives on a pie shaped lot that backs into Sheridan College so he can turn it up some and not bug his neighbors.

I live in a small suburban lot surrounded by neighbors. Rather than install speakers, I just use a portable bluetooth speaker for the times I want tunes outside (rare). I usually only run it on long weekends when other folks are playing tunes - and I either tune to the same radio station to make it more coherent, or on rare occasion I will play something else and because the speaker is right next to me I can hear mine vs theirs without getting into stereo wars.

Ya, the issue for me has always been "stereo wars" with my neighbor across the street. The guy plays C&W music at like, 99 db....WHILE he is cutting his lawn with a gas mower.... WTF? So, recently I changed up the mix on my multi-CD player to Rush, Led Z, etc....and play MY stereo at 80 db....which is quite loud inside my garage/machine shop. If his tunes get too annoying I close the main doors. They guy (obviously) is oblivious that his music is bleeding into the surrounding neighbor's space Interestingly, since I have been playing MY toons loud, he actually got the message and turned his down. :)
