In my morning browse through the classifieds I was amused to see a pic of a vintage receiver with a pot of hyacinths posed neatly on top of the ventilated cover. I’m sure it was just there for the pic to add ambience, but I was reminded of the time I looked across my living room to see a guest had planted a full glass of red wine on the cage of my 845 tube amp. Plus the time my SO, placed a lit candle on top of my Coincident speaker, the scorch mark fortunately did not deter the eventual buyer.

I like that.

Usually, kids get the blame. Pushed-in dust-caps, or toys inside the speaker ports!!

Common sense isn't that common.

Many years ago,I was hanging a pull down retractable home theater screen in my living room. It was a heavy screen in a metal housing. My main speakers ,Mission 753 were brand new just purchased .I didn't secure the screen well,I guess, and one end came loose .As it swung down it MISSED hitting my right speaker by 1/4 inch. You call that lucky or what?
Another time I placed one red aromatic candle in a glass jar sealed (from Ikea) on my curio cabinet ,the stupid thing even though it was sealed ,it got warm in the summer and slowly overflowed and stained my cabinet.
I cleaned the stain but couldn't get it all off.Now there is this an orange circle on it. :(
I am blessed ,my wife and my two sons are extremely careful around my audio equipment.
George

Back when my son was wee lad, I couldn't get the VCR to eject or play a tape. I took the lid off and found he had inserted a cheese sandwich he apparently did not want. I found it so funny I couldn't even get mad.

Growing up, the household stereo components were treated as furniture. The speakers always had some sort of decorative nick-knack placed on top of them.....carefully protected by a doily mind you. Setting drinks on top was fair game, but a coaster was mandatory. Somehow, everything survived.

My father has never let me forget that as a 3-year-old, I was responsible for wrecking his first turntable, pushing in the tweeter dust caps on his then brand new Sansui speakers, and hiding a set of house keys inside a top loading cassette deck. Kids....

Both of my kids fed them VCR and the cassette deck.

A friend asked if I'd have a look at his VCR. I took off the cover and there was a slice of pizza. He blamed his four year old but I have my doubts.
