With Rogers set top box hook ups to home theatre receivers how are you people doing it?

Have used a 4642 box and now a Nextbox .....yes its called that on the front
I see little info on home theatre connection
Rogers people told me to put Nextbox HDMI right into TV
But if you do that you'll need at the least a toslink going back to receiver
Perhaps an added connection off back of Nextbox

Can’t one still use the hdmi input ports on home theatre receiver for cable boxes then another hdmi out on hdmi out from receiver to the tv
Since this nextbox has few jack options in rear is there another way to successfully connect the cable box without hdmi?

Don’t understand why you could not connect the Netbox directly into your receiver via HDMI? The CSR at Rogers obviously has limited experience with Home Theatre equipment.

Check both your TV and AVR to see if they support ARC (Audio Return Channel), not all do. But if so, this feature will allow audio from the TV back to the AVR via a connected HDMI thus eliminating the need for the TOSLINK connection.

My TV is 4K, my AVR is not but both support ARC. I watch Netflix through the TV’s app but receive audio through the ARC HDMI connection to the receiver.

HDMI is turned on at receiver end and TV enabled hdmi from receiver into HDMI female labeled ARC HDMI2 on Panny
runs home theatre receiver volume with Panny remote
weird I had to run cable for sound

Maybe you are using an older HDMI cable. Try to connect the TV with the receiver with a cable that supports HDMI 1.4

its a blue jeans belden cable

Ironically I only use receiver as in 2 channel stereo mode

Wish there was a stereo preamp or reasonable processor(would run in 2 channel) capable (HDMI)of running the tvs sounds through it

I have a Bryston power amp running on main pre outs

It's quite a racket. At one point Denon and Onkyo blamed Rogers STB for the HDMI failure on their AVR's.
Rogers didn't respond except to say they'd send a technician out and if nothing was found or it was the AVR,they'd send me a bill.
At the moment I've got my STB connected directly to the TV via HDMI and optical to the receiver.
It works fine for regular tv but not so well for movies, Blu-ray etc.

The lack of HDMI within home audio, at least from a 2 channel perspective, could boil down to licencing. HDMI is a heavily licenced interface that carries not only an admission fee, but also a royalty per unit. Component manufactures also have to submit samples for certification testing, which again is very costly. There is also the added cost of maintenance – cause we all know how reliable HDMI is!

I have a Denon 7.2 Receiver.

The Denon has ONE HDMI connected to my Vizio 55" TV.

The Rogers NextBox 3.0 is connected via HDMI to the Denon.

The Desktop Computer (where I stream and watch Youtube and listen to my music and watch my downloaded stuff) is connected via HDMI to the Denon.

Another HDMI is connected from the Denon to my Gaming system.

A CAT6 runs from basement up to behind the TV into an Asus Gigabit Switch.
One CAT6 runs from the switch to the TV. Another CAT6 runs from the switch to the Computer.

The ethernet port on the NextBox is USELESS. DON'T BOTHER with it.

The USB port on the NextBox has a USB Fan hooked up. I turn on the fan to cool the receiver.

Done.
