New to MASSDROP for Electronics and I wonder who are all these small amp, DAC, and earbud makers? Are there bargains to be had or is this, as I guess, cheap offshore stuff?

The stuff is fine, however there are no bargains by the time you pay exchange, shipping, duty, and tax.
Amazon is always cheaper and faster.

Especially don't even consider buying a knife. Very good chance customs will take it.

I've never purchased from there but at the moment they have some Hifiman HE350's and an Alex Cavelli tube headphone amp that's probably quite excellent. Like Monoprice you just have to be patient and once in awhile they're advertising something that's very high quality at 1/3 of what the audiophile world usually charges for a similar item.

Have bought a few things from Massdrop. They've been quality and exclusive products you can't get anywhere else.

Sometimes even cheaper prices than used. Look at the price of HD650 vs. the Massdrop HD6XX (literally the same headphone in a different colour).

If you spend some time on websites like Headcase you'll have a very different perspectives about Cavelli headphone amps...

But to be fair forget the amp and the Focal Elex is quite interesting.

I recently bought the HD6xx and it worked out OK, because that was a particularly good deal. Shipping was $15, had to pay GST, plus the $10 for customs processing. Definitely a good deal in the US, they get free shipping.

I have had many knifes and even lasers shipped from Massdrop. The only thing declined entry was a bloody Kway jacket.

Don't want to derail A's thread but Head-Fi has an interesting thread concerning the upcoming Monoprice Cavelli amp:

For what it’s worth, I really enjoy the Massdrop CHT, regardless what Headcase says. There are a select few who hate Cavalli, a vocal minority.

I'm 2 for 2 seized at the border for knives. Knives sold in Canada even.

I know they build class D amps that are well liked.

Some items are deals and some are not, if something interests you research pricing here north of the border as well, my Nuforce HA-200 amp was a great deal, someone also mentioned the HIFIMAN HE-350 headphones but having heard the ones a friend has I prefer my HE-400i which I purchased from Visions for like $250 ish, and as mentioned the Sennheiser HD6XX is a great deal but there usually are some for sale here on CAM as well.

Cheers
