I am supposed to go to listen to a Rogue Rp1 preamp tomorrow and I may purchase it. My question is that it seems to have a low output rating. The spec says rated output 1volt. I need about 1.2 volts to drive my ST70 amp. Does anybody know if this rated output is the maximum out ther is no reference in the specs to the input to get 1 volt out. Is it really that low.
Thanks

There is also the gain of the linestage (7dB) to consider. Not that I would know, just posting it as more info for those who do.

Hi,

I suggest you read this article about line level signals.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_level

And yes, the pre-amp you are considering is a bit low, but not crazy low, and it will drive your ST70, but will perhaps require a bit higher volume setting than usual. 1.2 volts into the ST70 would probably induce clipping - a bad idea for speaker health, although those old ST-70 driver tubes can take quite a lickin.

Cheers,
David Neice

I would suggest you contact Rogue directly. They actually answer the phone or your emails! I have both the Rogue Magnum 99 preamp and Rogue Stereo 100 and could not be happier. I have had the Rogue pre for 10 years...that should say it all.

+1

1.2v is the max voltage accepted. As David said, the Rog RP1 will easily drive your amp.

1/1.2 = 83%

I guess you don't run your system with volume higher than 83%, then you are good to go.

It's true. I am also impressed with their customer service! Call them (or email) and they will gladly answer all of your questions.

I too found them to reply to emails very quickly.
If only they can find a way to get the RP5 I ordered back in late December here faster.
