Hello,

A friend is looking to build a studio space and is interested in working with someone to do the acoustic design. Does anyone have any professional acousticians working in the GTA they can recommend?

Does he want the best, or mediocre, like everyone else?

Taras of Teo audio has done the acoustics for over 60 major productions and has done permanent installs that are soundstages for major players in the film business. Ie, films are being made, TV shows are being recorded, in those acoustically perfected spaces, as I write. Besides the studio work. And all the rest of the work...

He's completed jobs to perfection that every single acoustican in the GTA walked away from and stated was impossible. Many times.

So you can get the normal result of overly muffled crap that can't do a thing about the boomy bass, or you can get the guy who does it right.

The best does not cost more than the mediocre, but one has to get the message that such is even possible, first.***

Taras does not advertise, or have offices....he goes by word of mouth and reputation. He only takes on projects that he likes where the people involved are likeable.

***: It is impossible to get the message as no one who has a space with an acoustical advantage will ever tell you how to steal their business away from them. So they'll never allow you to know who did the studio or soundstage acoustics.

Teo, you are a professional, right ? Then you must be pro in your comments too.

I know a handful guys who are very very good acousticians here in Montreal.
Then, it's very likely that the whole GTA has many good ones too.

You are right, I should be more polite.

What do they do when the job becomes impossible? Outside of their limits? That's the (part of) difference.

Try Michael at Inity Acoustics, he is on the dealer list in CAM.
He may not be the ultimate in perfection as Mr. Teo Audio but his products are very good quality and built to suit. I have purchased numerous panels and bass traps from him.
He also has a recording studio on Kingston Rd so you can see his work for yourself.

Even in apologizing, your arrogant condescension shows through. I’m certain there are plenty of competent and skilled acoustics professionals in the GTA other than “your guy”.

When you say studio, do you mean a recording studio?

Yes, primarily it will be a recording studio.

I asked my friend who's a technical engineer if he could recommend anyone as I knew he knew people. The only person he would recommend as he's worked with him personally for many years was Claude Fortier who runs http://www.sota.ca/index.html

But my friend said the project might be too small for him to take on. It probably is considering the projects they've worked on (and there's work I know of that's not on their site in terms recording studios by well known person(s)) but it might be worth a call in case they have other staff who can take on smaller jobs. Anyway, I hope it helps.
