Does anyone have any suggestions as to an upgrade to the PSB Stratus GOLDi speakers?

Ideally if anyone has experience with the Goldi's and liked them but have moved passed them onto something else. I currently enjoy the Goldi's and have really no complaints but would like to move up to the next level. I have a large (less than ideal) room and have a preference of floor standing speakers. My main focus for listening is 2 Channel audio. Classic Rock, Metal, Pop/Alternative, and Electronic are all played. I do enjoy listening at louder volume levels. :)

Budget is ~$5k. The speakers will be powered by a Bryston 4bsst2 run through a tube front end.

Any suggestions for research would be appreciated.

Since my Goldi's I've had:

Paradigm Studio 60 V3
B&W Nautilus 805
B&W Nautilus 804
Energy Veritas 2.1
Paradigm Studio 20 V3
Paradigm Studio 60 V5

...loved the PSB but I've had the Studio 60 V5 for the last 5 years (which is very long for me) and could live with them for while longer!

But at $5K you should be able to buy something better.

I'd have a listen to Terry Flood - TFLO Acoustic Design speakers.
Call Jac at 3db Sound Company in Edmonton and he can help you out.

When you're ready to "move" the PSB Stratus Goldi's, message me here or through the BHD forum and perhaps we can work something out.

If you're running a Bryston amp PMC should be the first thing to consider, they pair very well. With a 5k budget almost anything you choose will be an upgrade from the Goldi's. This is a short list of current used listings I would check out. The 4B gives you flexibility to try virtually any speaker. I've heard all of the recommendations on Bryston gear.

Though the Bryston amp may be overkill, khorns might work well for you. Classic rock and metal needs to be played loud. :D

Here are a few considerations:

Tannoy 15" Gold
Martin Logan Montis or Spire
Yamaha NS-1000
Wilson WATT/Puppy 5.1

What is it that you wish to improve upon? Which other styles or brands do you like? The Stratus golds are great speakers and you may just end up moving to something different not necessarily better. For example the Khorn is a great speaker as well but a vastly different presentation. And getting suggestions from members may not necessarily be helpful for you as it is very subjective. I would suggest going out and listening to as much as you can and then trying to narrow it down from there.

JBL Project Array 1400 is perfect with 4b in a big space and can play LOUD with excellent in room real world linearity, See the review in Stereophile. There is nothing that directly compares, precision hardware engineering from Northridge.

Cerwin Vega XLS-15 or 215 if you have a really big room.

Easy to drive, detailed, loud without being shrilly like a comparable horn set up.

Just a quick followup. I ended up going with the Bryston Signature T's and they sound fantastic. A serious step up from the Goldi's. Although I would have never expected it, they gobble up the power of the Bryston 4BSST2 like nothing.

I tried a few different speakers after my Golds.

I finally settled on the Tannoy D700's. I don't think I have ever appreciated a pair of speakers as much as these D700's. Good luck finding pair. It took me 2 years of waiting and that was 8 years ago

Oh, you'd really like the D900s! But they're rarer even than the D700s.
