I came into possesion of the first RUSH album. Self titled on MOON Records. My Goldmine does not list this version. I understand that only 3500 were printed. Mine is in excellent shape, I just played side 1 and it sounds great.
Same album on mercury is listed now on ebay for 74.00.....reasonable??

thanks Trev. Somehow my brother has found some old auctions on ebay dating back several years, and it does seem like it may be worth hundreds.
I googled it and didn't find a whole lot of info. maybe I'll have to head down to one of the local record shops and see how they grade it.

My apologies.

I realized in retrospect that thread digresses into a pissing contest.

There is a good link on the first page.

Which Moon is it? There is a Moon Moon and a Moon Mercury.

The Moon Moon can get anywhere from $100 in trashed Fair condition to easily $400+ in VG+ condition.

The Moon Mercury actually is rarer and can get a couple hundred in VG+ condition but does not have the sex appeal of the original Moon.

It's a MOON MOON. no where does it say Mercury. "MOON RECORDS IS A SUBSIDIARY OF SRO PRODUCTIONS LTD."

Red RUSH on front. Blue moon logo on label with black printing.

Looks like it's the real thing.

Rush’s first album, simply titled ‘Rush‘ seems to have had at least three versions. The initial pressing of 3500 copies features a cream-colored label and a blue ‘Moon Records’ logo. The second pressing includes a red logo, as opposed to the later pink lettering, as well as a small logo for Moon Records which is missing from later pressings. The pressing of 5000 ‘red’ copies reach prices around $80, opened. Reprints of the ‘pink’ LP sell fairly consistently around the $10 mark.

Yea that is the nosebleed end of pricing with a NM/NM copy, those are pretty rare, and don't often get that price, although I have seen NM/NM copies get $800+ on very rare occasions. Typically I see the cleanest ones move closer to $500. While this LP is often called rare it is uncommon at best. They surface almost weekly online, sometimes 2 or 3 or more will cause a mini flood at the same time. It does have a strong demand, never seen one sell for less than $100 online in any condition.

Still a hell of a find. When I found my Fair pressing that is beat to death for $1 I was thrilled, when I saw a similar trashed one sell for $134 I was over the Moon!

The limited production of this album has the PINK colored RUSH word on the front of the album cover and after it was released the band didn't like the overall sound of it. The re-released version of this album after some of the songs was re-recorded and tweak to make them sound better has the RED colored RUSH word on the front cover.

What this means is if you have the PINK colored RUSH word one it will be worth money and of course depending on its overall condition...

I HAD a pink one that I bought at Music World in Barrie - but I'm pretty sure it had 'Mercury' on it. Too bad I destroyed it on our RCA console stereo with at least a three penny stack on the arm. Oh, the things we did in the past...
