Out of all the components in my stereo system(s) speakers were and are the ones I changed most often. I have gone through so many different pairs over the years, much to my wifes dismay, and am trying to stem the purchasing. Although now I own 5 pairs. I am trying to sell one pair right now on CAM but just bought another. Does anyone else share this addiction to speakers? If so, how many pairs do you have? Am I crazy or what :? ?

Speakers! Yes I to am afflicted with the endless collection of boxes that make noise (and panels if I had the opportunity) from early Advents, to Polk, to Energy, Infinity, Castle, B&O, Elac and now Harbeths...and except for the Advents, I have those speakers and amps to drive them...I wouldn't mind some type of panel speakers, but discretion being the better part of valor, I may be restricted to dreaming about them...mind you panels with some McIntosh blue light specials could get me excited...

Judging by the amount of ads for speakers and the higher percentage close by only amps for sale I guess it would be safe to assume its either an addiction or bad choices for gear driving them. I have 5 pair. Guilty as charged

Cheers

Let's see ...

1 pair Acoustat 2+2 (extra pair of red medallions, extra stock pair of interfaces)
1 pair Acoustat model 4
1 pair M&K MX 70 subs (1 extra for parts)
1 pair Tetra 406
one Axiom EP500 version 2 sub
1 pair Newform Research R645
1 pair Newform Research R630
1 pair NHT SB3
1 pair Monitor Audio Gold MA700 mkII (extra one for parts)

So that's six pairs of speakers and three subs (not counting spare speakers for parts). And yet I am still looking, I must be addicted.

Right now just 3 pairs - Totem Arros, Epos ELS-3's and some black shiny ones that came with my Fatman amp.

Over the years I've definitely bought more speakers than other component mostly small, mostly cheap; Advent 1's (the guy I sold them to asked if I wanted them back about a month ago but I don't have room), some Paradigm tower when Paradigm was a new company, never knew the model, Castle Clydes, Spica TC-50's (never should have sold them), NHT Super Zeroes (should have kept them too), and at least three pair of Minimus 7's (great value).

Stereophile have run a couple of articles on the theme of buying cheap speakers - although what they consider cheap does not always align with my view on the subject. The gist of the argument is that speakers give you the most noticeable, immediate, impact to your system so it is more fun to change them; find good source components and a decent amp then enjoy swapping speakers. (This the opinion expressed by Stereophile not smittyman so no flames please! :? ) Sounds like a lot of us do just that, even if we never read the articles.

I think it is hard to have many speakers in the house at the same time as they take space. Currently I have 3 pairs- all harbeths. :)

Usually a sign that the source in your system is inadequate and you tend to blame the speakers for letting the system down when in fact, it goes back to the front of the system.

I believe the question was, "how many pairs of speakers do you own"?

I have five pair. Mostly because I have 3 different systems and an inability to part with stuff.
