I have heard there was a club or association of some sort for audiophiles, hifi fans in Calgary, but I cannot find anything in Google other than the HiFi night club.
It would be cool to join a group and get a taste of different equipment and be exposed to some new music. Maybe have a cigar while listening...

PS: Pardon me

Hello Palffy,

I would certainly welcome the opportunity to meet with like-minded enthusiasts
and share thoughts and experiences regarding the music, coupled
with our collective fixation on the equipment associated with making and
reproducing it.

Best regards,

Roger

Best to call yourselves "audiophiles" rather than "audiofiles."

People might start wondering whether you're humans or some new algorithm that Google is trying out. . .

Not sure I would call myself an audiophile, more like an audioholic! People are always welcome, come have a listen to my system anytime. Would be nice to Meet some new people, and listen to some different flavors of systems.

The club was formed in 2010 and was spearheaded by a doctor and it was called Southern Alberta Audio/Video Club. I joined a year later and according to the list of e-mails that was circling around there were only 10 of us. The purpose of the club was to form an audio club in Calgary where audiophiles and non-audiophiles alike mingle and gather together and share our experiences of everything about stereo equipment, music, and movies. Each of us would take a turn to host the gathering which was once every two months or depending on each member's consensus schedule. One of our members was one of the most prominent high-end digital designers who also happen to live in Calgary. He would show up in our gathering with his new digital processor or CDP design in tow to be evaluated by us. I remember one time when he brought the new SACD DAC unit that he was experimenting the sound with of which I thought was totally unprecedented. Here we are listening to the new design and minted dac unit which will debut that year in the audiophile market for thousands of dollars in MSRP it was a privilege to hear it. I also remember the night when one of the members brought in and introduced the new non-horn loaded powered speakers made by Avant Garde, I was a little taken aback by it as I thought Avant Garde only make horn loaded speakers. We had a great time listening to the music, exchanging ideas and share our musings while having wine and cheese.

Anyway, I'm not sure if the club is still around as all I know the doctor stops e-mailing us...

BTW, if you want to get together just ping me...

I remember the good old days at the doctors place listening to some tunes and having a glass of wine. Hope you guys pull something together. I am in Vancouver now and been wondering for awhile how to do something here similar to that.

In Calgary I'd call it the Top Hat Desperaudio's ! Just think we could all compare our THD and gather for Audio, Beer and eats. I'd come down from the 'Chuck to hear good gear. Isn't The rivalry between our cities to see who's the "top" ? Here's your chance to prove it, THD. I love the sound of it :)

I'm in Cowtown on a regular basis and would love to crash a party and bring along an interesting piece or 2 for auditing.

Just wondering if you were there at his place when he introduced the new top of the line Karan equipment together with his new Piega speakers. Meanwhile, in his kitchen, I was enjoying some vintage wine, cheese, and sausage that were imported from Europe. I once asked our special guest for the evening regarding his favorite music he told me flat out "I don't listen to music however, I'm very interested in how them music sound". Given his profession as one of the most prominent and meticulous designers in audio, I supposed I would agree with him.

PM me if any of you want to get together for an evening of music enjoyment.
