I'm trying out this pre amp.
It's a big change for as I was using a passive pre before.
My system currently consists of
Rega rp6/excact ll
Ps audio gcph phono pre
Above mentioned line pre
Celeste 4150se power amp
Rega rs5 speakers
I'm enjoying the sound and benefits of an active pre. I did notice a significant presence of bass.
In particular, low bass notes almost seem boomy.
By description, the pre is supposed to deliver taut bass. I wouldn't describe this as taut. Maybe it is 'true' bass that I'm not used to hearing due to listening through the passive.
I'm curious if anybody has experienced this pre and what they thought. Thanks.

Hi,

Here is an experiment for you. One day I was listening to an AZ pre into an AZ Class D amp through a pair of Mark Daniels. It wasn't bad, and certainly not bass lumpy. Maybe it was a little 'in my face' compared to the laid back sound I prefer but each to his own. Later I heard the same pair of components through Nola Boxers and that was much preferred.

I asked George what he was using to connect the pre and the power amp and he said ''digital coax cables'. For the nominal cost of a pair, you might try that. Later George tried to pitch me that if I bought them I would be in good company because Kevin O'Leary has them in his cottage. Boy oh boy, what a benefit that would be! I didn't tell him I am a life long radical leftist.

Cheers,
David Neice

Thanks David,

I have the pre and power amp hooked up through the balanced connections and was considering using the RCA connectors to see if there is a difference.
You hit the nail on the head 'forward' may be closer to defining the bass.
I will investigate the digital coax and then patiently explain the reason I need them to my wife.

Hi,

Don't go overboard with $200 digital coax interconnects, just get a cheap pair to start off (try the Princess Auto Surplus Bargain Section) and see if there is a positive change. The wife will love you and later if you want silver coax interconnects then you can woo her over with dinner.

Cheers,
David Neice
