+1 on the Raidho D-1's.

I was fortunate to have been able to hear it at Angie's Corner a few weeks ago. At fist glance, they looked like ordinary speakers except for the gorgeous stands. When the audition began...I was floored. Amazing sounding speakers. One word stood out the most when hearing these and that is "SMOOTH". The transition between the ribbon tweeters and driver on the speaker when playing was so smooth, I was floored!

Wish I could afford them though as the price shocked me as much as the sound. This was the best Bookshelf I've heard in a while!

What is the best bookshelf speaker you have ever heard and the most beautiful one.

Question number 1 goes to = Raidho D-1 - $28,000.00 ( stand included )

Question number 2 goes to = Sonus Faber Extrema's - $16,000.00 ( no stand )

I have yet to hear the Raidho's but I guess they are outstanding. Heard the SF Extrema's quite a bit and they are very...very good.

But the no. 1 'standmount' sound for me still has to be the JMLab Mini Utopias from a few years past. It was a great matched system too running them but there was something about the impact, speed and response that made these speakers special to me. Truly fantastic sound.

Honorable mention to the Dynaudio C1's of course as I am a Dynaudio fanboy. Remarkable balance from these speakers IMO and with the right sub(s) can compete with any bookshelf/standmount out there.

Hi nedrudrelyt, trust me the JMLab Mini Utopias are not even in the same league as the Raidho D-1 BUT also not the same price $8,000.00 VS $28,000.00 i am also a Dynaudio fan boy my favorite boxed speaker of all time as always been the Dynaudio Consequence that i heard in the late 80s and never forgot the wonderful sound they where matched with an all Primare 928 system it was sublime.

I had a pair of KEF 103.2 They were not the best I ever heard but they were the best bookshelf speakers I ever owned.
They did a lot of things right and went as loud as I wanted (at the time) and if I got heavy handed with the volume contol their protection circuit save me from disaster.
Sometimes I wish I still had them. :(

Within their limits .. I thoroughly enjoy my Harbeth P3ESR's .. a much more modern take on the old LS3/5a, so, yes, they are one of the best I've actually heard. I can't comment on the Raidho .. although they seem to get a LOT of praise heaped on them. Somehow, my brain rather locks up beyond about $5k for a smallish speaker. At some point, the law of diminishing returns is kicking in, and the extra $$ is all just water under the bridge.

Nola Boxers. Heard them at the Montreal show a few years ago in a huge room and they were amazing. Could have stolen the display pair for $1000. Should have.

The Kef LS50 seems to be getting a lot of great reviews. They come for a good price at around $1500.00 pr.

I can't fathom spending huge coin on bookshelf speakers. If I going to spend huge coin it will be on large speakers that can push large volumes of air. That said I'll go with Jamo Concert 8's and Ruark Broadsword. The Ruarks's require a wee bit of power to make them sing.

I'll also include my favourite budget bookshelf: Boston Acoustics A-60.

Looks are not high on my list of importance.
