On the first Sunday of each month (with occasional exceptions) the "Dead Vinyl Society" (based out of Edmonton) engages a local bar/restaurant to host a "Bring Out Your Dead" record digging event.
Vendors are invited to bring out a couple of crates of vinyl to offer for sale/trade and the local vinyl enthusiasts are invited to attend for an afternoon of digging, conversation, frivolity and food.

The January 07th 2018 event was the first I've had the opportunity to attend (up until recently I was working at the store on Sundays).
Following is a transcript copied from the Black Hat Desperaudio Facebook page with my thoughts.

If you're in the YEG this event is well worth your time to attend. Watch the DVS and BHD Facebook pages for info on upcoming events and details.

Impressions from the first Dead Vinyl Society "Bring Out Your Dead" event for 2018.
1 - Busy! Plenty of 'diggers' and vendors.
2 - Surprising selections!!! More than a few vendors brought plenty of music on vinyl of interest that I didn't expect to see. Lots less of the usual 70s R&R and lots more obscure (and collectible) pieces from many different genres. Distinct lack of Classical - but I guess that's not for everyone - it is for me.
3 - The venue - Daravara. Smaller than I expected and maybe a bit small for the number of people in attendance. But not a real issue. All indications were that the comestible offerings were of a high quality standard indeed!
4 - BHD attendance - lower than I expected but more than a few familiar faces - always a good thing. Maybe it was just the NFL and the Golden Globes that kept some members home. (Could happen!)
5 - Would I attend again? Answer there would be a solid "Yes!". Even though I might not need more vinyl to add to my collection the conversational interaction with vendors and diggers and BHD members and DVS organizers was well worth my time - and that time passed by all too quickly.

I'll be looking forward to the next "Bring Out Your Dead"."
