Now days, things are getting more and more compact...not necessarily means bad, technology advanced...
A while ago, my kids killed my laptop adapter, and I ran out laptop power adapter due to building ACA amps for friends...well, I have many adapters but the connectors vary from brands, models. I don't use OEM adapters, and original ones are expensive. Luckily, I found one quite old adapter the connector fits for my HP Elite notebook.

The old HP adapter is huge, you can see from the comparison between old and new HP adapters.
As a DIYer, I can't help open the old adapter, and I found it was well built - 3mm thick aluminum covers top, left and right, and copper (pretty thick also) cover back of the PCB.

It's still working, but I hear some sizzling sound (not loud, but noticeable if you are close to it and very quite around)...probably the caps are not in good shape. I spend about 1 hour this morning and did a recap for it...hope it can continue serving me till my laptop perish...

It's a habit...I also have done recapping for TV once, OMG it's now becoming a lifestyle...I need help...LOL

Ok, this thread is kind of out of context. almost all my laptop adapters will end up serving as ACA SMPS if their specs fit. If you have experience with ACA using laptop adapter, you might have noticed that it has a thump when turned on/off. I sometimes increase the caps to reduce/eliminate the thump.

So, as a matter of fact, it should sound better...cheers!
