The heydays would have been the '80's, and the car stereo guys were fanatical, if not rabid, enthusiasts. Pure sound at extreme volumes was what it was all about, and I know for a fact it was possible. Can't drive and listen to music? Well park then or get off the road, you're a menace.

It was big in the 90s too, car audio from what i can tell didnt really die off until the 2000s. To my knowledge there hasnt even been an IASCA event in canada since 09-10

VW, Technology Package which is available on some of their models is Dynaudio and is absolutely the best OEM system I have ever heard, highly recommended that option box be checked off when buying a new VW!

My Last 2 vw’have had the tech package including the Dynaudio system, absolutely no complaints, rocks loud and clear...well balanced.

That being said, I’m too old to **** around with aftermarket systems anymore, I used to, but that was in my 20’s.

My two cars have upgraded speakers, amps and dsp. OEM head units. I always try to get a car without the factory DSP branded head units. easier to de equalize and decks become basic line out.

Wondering if you guys out there are as picky with your car system as you are with your home system. I know I am and audio quality is an integral part of my car buying decision (that is when cars are not aftermarket system friendly...). On my top 3 of car audio I owned: Acura ELS, BMW Logic 7 and McIntosh (Subaru). You?

No. Otheriwise, I would guess maybe 30% of the audiophiles in the 1970's-80's also spent the $$ for car stereo. Then cars came equipped with higher end systems than they did so upgrading was as likely necessary.
