My new amp has XLR connections whereas my pre is RCA. Instead of adaptors, I’d like to just teterminate the cable to accommodate a right angle XLR (why on earth do amp makers insist on top mount receptacles?). I’ve searched the web and all the examples only show three wires, not 4 and have pins 1&3 shorted and pin 2 hot (red?). Can someone walk me through exactly how to solder each colour wire to each post. There is also what appears to be a ground clip on the top of the plug not evident from the pic. Much thanks.

I have the amp in the url below. I don't use XLR. I use 1/4 inch to RCA, but on page 10 Figure 3.35b in the url below, there is a diagram on how to make a "unbalanced" XLR to XLR cables.

If you can picture one end being the RCA plug then the description would still apply since it is "Unbalanced". It is pretty straightforward.

Hope this helps
