Have an iPOD classic, do not compress music (ie .wav files stored). Looking for a dock/DAC to connect to my hifi (RCA connectors).

I typically play from CD into system, but looking to use the iPOD as a small, portable source (ie use playlists instead of playing DJ with my CDs) for parties background music.

Do not have a separate DAC now.

Recommendation?

Hi...I use a Teac DS-H01 with my 160gb last gen classic and it works well and reliably. It has an acceptable dac but also has the digital outputs if you want to add on a better dac at a later date. It says it works with the 6th gen classic but my 120 gb didn't.

It can be found at a very reasonable price used on CAM.

Usually goes for about $150.
Enjoy the music!

well, is always the old question - how much do you want to spend?

but the cheapest ok solution would be:

iPOD adapter [cable] to USB A female
Apple sync cable ends in male USB A, no? if so, use a female to female USB A
plus
UCA222 or 202 by Behringer - a cd level DAC & audio 'swiss army knife'
and
twin rca to twin rca cable [that you have already!]

What connector is on the iPod? I have (I think I still have it) a plug-in adapter for the original iPod connector (30 pin?) that supplies the audio line out as a 3.5mm RCA. With that you'd be able to plug the iPod directly into your system without having to use the headphone jack. I believe that the adapter also has a usb connector which would allow you charge the iPod. It was marketed as a 'pocketdock'. No need for a DAC with a dock as most just pass along the audio out of the iPod's DAC.

For my iPhone with lightning connector I use the Apple USB 3 camera connector with an Audioquest Dragonfly Black DAC.
