I was looking to build a small system for the living room. Putting in a TT, needed easy access to iTunes (I’ve used it for 13 years not changing now), and a CD player was a bonus. FM tuning ability is nice for Christmas time when we can set a station and let it go.

There are very, very few units that can accomplish all this. Linn makes one but as wonderful as it would be was beyond my means. I could of done some fanangling with an airport express or Apple TV and an integrated/receiver but for me “less is more”.

Enter the Marantz M-CR-611

Does everything I need it to, does it respectfully well. I’m using it with some Tannoy DCT4 floor standers and it has plenty of power for them. Also tried them with a pair of missions I had and aside from the limitations of the speakers were great. I’m going to try a pair of dream catchers next.

Only thing I don’t like is the plastic chassis......I think it should have been metal, no doubt this is a few cents cheaper for manufacturing but would definitely have provided me the feeling of a better built unit.

At this price point it’s perhaps a little pricey for a second or bedroom system but it checks off a whole lot of boxes so it’s convenience factor is off the charts.

Best part - “Wife Approved” due to its compact size.

Looks like a cool little unit. Neat that you can control it with your phone. And it's great to see streaming products support FLAC and WAV more over crappy MP3 files.

Having separate volumn controls on the a and b channels is a great feature.
My Yamaha rn 602 does not and it's a pain
