Good article on why a center channel is not needed. I tested it when I had a center VS just the 2 fronts. The 2 fronts produced the voices in the center just as good as with the center speaker on. I ditched the center. Later on I went 2 channel and haven't looked back. https://www.cnet.com/news/att...

I would be selling my current studio 100 v.3 and studio cc690 centre for a pair of Signature s6 v.3. Any opinions or first hand knowledge of this change? I'm thinking even though it is going down to 2.1 that the sound quality would be better? Sell the 100s and get the S6. I made a very similar move...

I have a 5.1 system that is prioritized for 2.0 and 2.1. I would miss the extra 3.1 for movies. I think it is the best of both worlds. A good center channel adds so much to dialogue, and anchors the sound to the screen, regardless where one is watching in the room. My main towers reproduce respectab...

I've been using Tidal (streamed through my Oppo BD player at home, a browser into a USB DAC at work; and from my iPhone to my JBL sound dock in the bedroom, and plugged into my car radio. It costs $20 per month (for DC quality streaming), but I have access to more music than I can listen to ... and ...

I use an Anthem MCA-50 and it is a fine amp, and fully adequate for a 15x18 room, with a full complement of Paradigm Reference 5.1 similar to what you may be considering. I use it for music and movies. The 4BST will have more guts for the front channels ... rated at nearly double the power, it will ...

I once owned the same DAC ... and posted a mini-review here: https://www.canuckaudiomart.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=38525&p=600089&hilit=simaudio+100d#p600089 While it is an amazing DAC, there are reasons I moved on (one being the convenience of just using my pre/processor, another b...

L-Man did not mentioned it, but can be seen in his picture. The black ceiling panel above screen does wonders to eliminate ceiling reflexions. It's also an acoustic panel/cloud, 1.5" Roxul Comfortboard IS. It cleans up the dialogue of the center channel, and really controls light spill which w...

Here is a suggestion to find a projector at a decent price. They change quite often, depending on availability. Less than retail, with warranty: https://epson.ca/Clearance-Centre/Home-Entertainment/c/cc301?q=%3Aprice-asc%3AdiscontinuedFlag%3Afalse%3AinStockFlag%3Atrue%3AonSale%3Atrue&text=#scrol...

A dark front wall for HT really helps to make the screen "pop", as I did in the room pictured above. The screen is white anyways so this wall will only be dark beyond the screen.

LED valence lighting really adds to the room.

His room may be 14'x15' ... in which case a 100" screen may still work fine. We don't know the dimensions, just the floor area. Otherwise, even a 92" screen might be a good option.

I much prefer a reflected image to the harsh light that emanates from most TV sets.

I second the projector recommendation. My room is just a bit larger than yours (about 15x18) and I have a 100" screen. Here's a picture maybe it will give you some ideas.

I went the Paradigm Reference Studio route ... upgrading through the line as they became available (started with Studio 60 v2). The Studio 100/v4, CC470/v3, ADP 470/v3 and Seismic 12 were very affordable (used) and spectacular for movies and very good for music. I'm now using a pair of Paradigm Trib...

Both have their beauty and their place ... the authenticity and intimacy of period recordings are often very revelatory as to how the composer meant his music to be performed. With strings, the added colour and power of a full orchestra can paint a much larger canvas than a baroque ensemble .... but...

I started with TIDAL last year and the free trial went without a hitch. They can't charge you 2 months for a free trial ... yes, take it up with VISA.

IMO more than worth the $/mo, though. Unlimited, high quality music, something that would have only been a dream years ago.
