This is one serious remote volume control tube preamplifier for even TWICE the price!
It's not your grandfathers vintage overly sirupy congested tube preamp. As this is very musical with transparency, 3-D imaging, broad sound staging, airy along with great low-end extension. It takes on a level of refinement with NOS tubes that would require majorly stretching your wallet to improve upon.
Not only can you change the coupling caps without soldering, but you can also switch the voltage from 12v to 6v to run different tubes, but also the rectifier voltage from 6.5v to 5v. It doesn’t stop there as you can switch to high or low gain and also add feedback to change the sound.
You can drive 12AU7 tubes in this along with the taller E80CC's and the whole 6922 family of tubes 6DJ8, 7308, 6N23P's. 6SN7's can also be run also with socket adapters. Rectifier tube wise you can drive 6x5’s or GZ34/5AR4's. The Obbligato Gold coupling caps are very good and personally I see no need to swap these out unless you’re bored with too fun much money burning a hole in your pocket.
Comes with 4 stock matched Shunguag 12AU7 tubes and a 6x5 metal base power supply rectifier tube. It has 3 RCA inputs and 2 RCA outputs which are gold plated CMC chassis mount laid out with some symmetry. There’s no bright LED on/off light as you can tell it’s powered on by the rectifier tube being heated. A sleek black plastic remote control for volume up/down only as there’s a motorized Alps volume pot. Face plate controls are Power Button along with Volume and Input Selector knobs. There’s a toroidal transformer housed in a fully shielded steel compartment below the gold printed circuit board.
My only reason for selling is it will not fit my rack due to it’s height as it’s just too tall with the rectifier tube sticking out the top. The metric sizes seemed way smaller in my head as the chassis size is 6” high x 12" wide x 13" deep and you need to add another 1” for the rectifier tube which makes the overall hight 7” tall.
I bought this after spending a year or more upgrading everything possible on my Transcendent Sound Grounded Grid preamplifier. The Grounded Grid preamp had been hailed being a Giant Killer since the late 1990's. The MP-701 right out of the box once warmed up even with the stock Shuguang tubes spanked my Grounded Grid quickly out the door.
I don’t really want to sell this, but after a few days of mildly arguing with my better half she wins on getting it off the amp stand on the floor. So here it is in true flawless 10/10 condition, with 50 hours on the stock tubes and about 150-200 on the preamp itself.
Included is the original double box and packaging materials, full stock tube compliment, remote control, and a generic 15amp IEC power cord.
My asking price is fully shipped in the USA via FedEx Ground Fully Insured with No Additional PayPal percentage up-charge.
Although still relatively new here I also have 100% positive feedback level of 453 on A'Gon under the same user name for 151 previous transactions over the course of nearly 2 decades.
Thanks for looking and please feel free to ask any questions you might have?
