I am offering for sale a small power amplifier built on a re purposed TAO 906 MK II chassis. It consists of the existing power transformer from the TAO which had the right voltage output and capability, I believe, to power two MX40 power amp modules rated at 40-50- watts per channel into 8 ohms. The small unregulated power supply board utilizes Nichicon caps with 9400 filtering in each power rail. The speaker protection board is powered by a small ac transformer from a Bose power pack and it is rated to supply 1.5 amps to the board and the ac on light on the front panel. Both front and back panel have been covered with laser etched gold panels and glued on with epoxy glue... DC voltage applied to the boards is a steady 34 volts +- with DC offset at the output below 5 mv for both channels after a 10 minute warm up. The unit has been operating with my AR3A's and does not seem to have an issue with these power hungry units. However, given the power supply used as well as the output modules, I believe this amp would be better suited to more efficient speakers with 8 ohms impedance. The amp has no audible hum or hiss with my test speakers and the speaker protection circuit eliminates any turn on thump. The chassis cover was repainted a gloss black and felt was added to the base feet to prevent scratches to any surface it is set on. In my view this amp would be suitable for a man cave or garage powering efficient speakers, it is NOT a powerhouse by any means and all parts except the transformer and chassis are new, albeit Chinese units. The Heathkit symbol in the bottom left of the front was just a bit of nostalgia to the past and also covers an inherent small hole in the front due to a push button on-off switch idea not working out. There are also a couple of scratches on the back, a small one on the front new the indicator light. due to a misplaced file by myself. Stuff happens! Local pickup is preferred but I can arrange shipping at the buyers cost. PLEASE NOTE! that this unit is being sold with the MX 40 power amp modules rather then the LM3886 modules that I just received. If anyone is interested in having the chip amp modules instead, let me know.. Thanks for looking Wayne
