The made-in-Canada Arbiter speakers were excellent performers when they appeared in the mid-80's. They were very highly regarded and had excellent sound.
However, like a lot of new Audio companies, they seemed to flounder and disappeared.
In Audio, this is not a reflection of the quality of the product, but usually a result of in-fighting at the manufacturing level, lack of proper marketing, personality clashes, money problems or a combination of those factors.
The Arbiter was a two way, full range speaker featuring a ribbon tweeter and an eight inch mid/woofer.
You'll find a discussion about the Arbiter on the Canuck Audio Mart Forums, including some comments from people who were involved in the design and manufacture of the speaker. People who own them love them and consider them to be of much higher quality than the Mass Market and even 'high end' options available today.
Here is a Canuck ad from 2015 for this pair of speakers: https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649179505-the-arbiter-one-of-a-kind-show-sample
After that time something happened to the woofers, and the most recent owner tells me that the woofers were really not all that good, compared to newer designs and there are plenty of efficient, better-sounding woofers that could be used as replacements. The tweeters were working the last time these speakers were used. (and there are lots more of good/better quality and cheaper ribbon tweeters around nowadays also, if it became necessary to replace those)
Jim Fab of FAB Audio in Ontario has experience with the Arbiter speaker and has ideas of how to get these working.
The cabinets are in very good condition and are solidly built. These speakers are being sold as a 'Do-it-yourself' or restoration project for someone who wants a piece of Canadian Audio History.
Only $250.00 for them as is.
