This is a very fine example of quality vintage audio. Great build quality and great sound. This piece is in very nice condition. Just the odd small mark here and there. The original owner loved this piece so much he put his SIN on the top at the right back corner. As shown in pics.
Every electrolytic cap replaced except the four power supply caps.
Used high quality caps including Nichicon PW,KW,KL,Muse ,uze. Used some Panasonic stacked film caps as well.
Failure prone transistors replaced. Relay replaced. All epoxy diodes replaced. New thermal compound and mica installed on the original outputs.
Amp section set to specs.
All controls properly cleaned and lubed.
I show a few pictures of the unit opened up to give you a sense of the amount of work it takes to properly access the unit for servicing.
Hardly any duct tape used to get it back together!
This is a terrific sounding and designed unit.
The new owner will be pleased.
Note I am a pro shipper. See my feedback!
Go the above link to see this unit working!
I will provide my phone # to serious buyers. I prefer to chat about my work and meet the new owner.
I also provide a short video of the unit taken just before packing to the new owner.
This is a true collectors piece. I can only keep so many.
So tough choices have to be made.
I am confident the new owner will be pleased!
I prefer EMT.
Note: The owner had just paid a so called reputable shop to so call service this piece just before I bought it.
Had to shake my head when I opened it up. Lube spread all over the controls and lube oozing out of the power switch. What can happen when you put lube/cleaner into a power switch?
I guess the shop was ensuring they would have future work. Sure enough the power switch had failed. Cause, lube created an arc and caused the switch contacts to fuse/melt in on position.
So besides cleaning the lube mess ,rebuilding the power switch was required. That and adjusting the dc offset and bias to specs. How could a so called pro allow a piece to leave his bench without checking this?
Unfortunately this is quite common. They really don't take pride in their work. My little rant for the day!
