ATTENTION all CAM member tube shoppers... Finding the right tube for your amp/pre amp,you will find that there will be a lot of different opinions .... Many times all the answers are right. The complications can be is some tubes can be very system dependent so it will depend on your system as to which tubes sound the best. We all desire quiet nice sounding tubes. Why are some tubes noisier then others,or quieter in certain amps and not in others? Audio tubes need to settle in and then will get better once burned in. Definitely buy from a reputable dealers! If you're going to be into tubes, its always beneficial to develop a relationship with dealers you can trust. If you want to find the best sounding tube for your system and don't mind spending $$, then buy several brands/types and listen for yourself. Each brand tends to feature characteristics that may appeal to you and match well with your unit, others not so much so there really isn't one 'best-sounding' tube out there as its very dependent on the application. Also, while these super rare and uber-expensive tubes do sound great, they're best implementation is in sensitive pre amps and phono stages Remember, a good portion of their cost can be attributed to their scarcity, not just their sonics. They really don't stand out in the usual amplifier's driver stage and in most other gear, a similar but substantially more common NOS tube of the same manufacturer will provide all but maybe the last 1% of the sonics of the super tubes at a much lower price. Although improving, still many of the new tubes made today in Europe, China and Russia only reproduce random varied harmonics. This can be why most of us upgrades to a vintage made tube made decades ago when these rare inner earth metals were available in the inside construction of the vintage tube. These metals have become too expensive to use and today’s tube makers have found cheaper substitutes which seem to work but do not reproduce all the nuances and textures in music! ... These 5963 tubes are usually very well matched (triode to triode) and noise-free. Try them, you may like the results. The highly recommended 5963 + 12AU7 BALDWIN ORGAN GRADE tubes are both outstanding audiophile tube! Try them in your amp/pre amps/headphone amps!!! You will be impressed enough to buy another as a spare, and most likely not expect to continue searching for anything better. They exemplifies "truth in timbre" and is very clean, sweet (but not artificially so), and neutral. Inner voices and hall acoustics are easy to hear!

Local GTA cash pickup welcome. Just wait until you listen to all the types of 5963's. It's another 12AU7A variant. The 5963 IS A MEDIUM-MU TWIN TRIODE. 9—PIN MINIATURE TYPE A variant of the 12AU7 family of tubes Very little is written about these 5963 tubes. It's practically today unknown, yet these are excellent fantastic replacements for 12AU7 tubes! Smooth and sweet, yet bargain priced compared with many European brands! Very smooth tube from top to bottom with no weakness! These are a nice industrial/military upgrade variant type which is nearly identical to the standard 12AU7. RCA made a nice black plate version of this tube The 1950’s RCA 5963 sounds more dynamic than the standard 12AU7 Blackplate It’s also a very good low-noise tube. The plate voltage rating is a little lower than for a 12AU7, but for most applications, it will work fine. It has a rugged cathode and should be quite long lived, similar to the 5814. That specially-designed cathode is said to withstand long periods of time in cut-off without damaging the tube (cathode poisoning). This made them a great choice for NORAD computers, which led to a good supply of them on the USA West Coast. Use them and you will marvel at the quality and value. They are dead-silent and seem to have an unusually long lifespan. Very satisfied with the sound they produce. I prefer it to Mullard 12AU7, Sylvania 5814A,and of course the stock modern 12AU7's. A truly fine 12AU7 variant from the 1950's, many tube audiophiles feel these can outperform most other NOS 12AU7 tubes! In computer (and some other) service, tubes were quite often operated as switches, biased to cutoff (no plate current) for long periods of time and then turned on, while always the heater and cathode were warmed up and ready to go. In ordinary tubes, this leads to a condition known as "cathode interface resistance" or "sleeping sickness." The cathode interface is a layer of metal, usually nickel, between the cathode sleeve and the oxide coating that emits electrons. In ordinary tubes, under conditions of long-duration tube cutoff, it generates a growing resistance until at last the cathode "goes to sleep." Computer tube cathodes were specially treated to survive those long periods of cutoff without developing cathode interface resistance
