Canuck Cable: Digital Coax Cable Review
Pros: The cable is quite inexpensive compared to the typical digital cable, yet construction is quite good. Canare cable & connectors are used. The cable comes with the Canare colour-coded boots of your choice. But the cable comes in basic black without any fancy sleeves to push up the price.
Sound quality after a relatively short burn in time, is quite good for the money. Remember this is a $20 cable! It certainly sounds better than a lot of other high-priced digital cables. In my system, there was a lot more detail than with other cables and it is quite neutral.
Canuck Cables also provided timely delivery. A much valued bonus.
Cons: Shortcomings? The connectors are fine, but not great. Not the tightest, but they do their job.
Better cables cost a lot more money, however the Canares are quite reasonable at their price point. Cables from Atlas, for example give better sound, but at four times the price!
Summary: Let me start by saying I have tried a wide variety of digital cables and some of them are overpriced non-performers; improvements not in line with their prices. Cables do make a difference, but not always. I've seen the ads for Canuck Cables on Canuck Audio Mart for a while, and when I needed a digital cable for my DVD player, I decided to give them a try.
Summary of the 1.5 meter length of digital coax Canuck Cable I recently bought:
- Price dirt cheap and delivery was timely.
- Sound quality? Certainly it punches above its weight, putting many more expensive cables to shame. So in that sense it is a "giant killer." However, it is NOT the best digital cable I have heard. BUT, I could buy enough Canuck digital cables, to start a store on the difference.
Overall, it's a recommended product for those on a budget or for those hooking up a satellite box or DVD player.
