Has anyone tried the Protege's with a Tripath or chip amp? These speakers are not exactly quoted efficient (88 db). I use mine with a LM3875 chip amp with amazing results

The Nait 5i is a real nice match, and it has the AV passthrough, so you could use it with your AVR300 to pre out for your fronts (I have this exact setup). The you have nice two channel and great HT.

Great review! I have a pair of StudioLAB Reference 1 bookshelf version in my home office setup with a vintage Electrohome Tube Power Amp. Given the size of the room, the bookshelf version is perfect. I have the newer Eclipse tower StudioLAB speakers in my basement with a custom made tube power amp from a guy in Niagara Falls, Ontario. I will never buy any other speaker other than StudioLAB and really appreciate the personal touch when dealing with them and I especially like having CANADIAN made gear!!!

Well audio is so personal and this is what i got out of the speakers... someone else may get a different reaction.

suds - I would be interested in how the nait 5i pairs with the speakers.

I am looking forward to trying out the tripath amp with the speakers and maybe later on try some simaudio i5.

I have a pair of Proteges with a NAIM Nait 5i and CD5i.....I'm very, very happy. Anyone in the Toronto area looking for speakers should really check Studio Lab out......fantastic service and knowledgeable sales folks as well

Since I'm getting personal, I might as well reveal that I am a 23 year old AUDIOPHILE who appreciates quality over spec sheets and personal preference above all. Your wisdom is much appreciated to the point where if I had a printer I'd print your review. I've done a few reviews and have helped Pioneer Elite plasma panels sell - but your description of your new speaker set up gives me chills! Keep in touch - I'd loved to be able to enhance my abilities with your wisdom - afterall, when your boss is your friend, you want to sell as many high quality products as you can - and today alone I made the boss $8000 in sales while he was away for a Provincial fast ball tourney. Sorry, enough bs.

The point is, we carry some nice products and since I've been at GoodGuys here in beautiful Westbank BC I've been nagging the boss to bring in some Carver or Bryston products. We have a vintage Luxman preamp power amp combo with matching tuner (I have the tape deck for recording demos and will include it in the pkg if you're interested - $1000 for the set in nice condition) our ADCOM stuff wont move an inch.... we've brought in Cambridge AUDIO and the new Elite Pure Audio series to offer some very nice hi-fi value to our h/t oriented market (consumer demands). My friend is a generous one and allows me the freedom to offer some very nice deals - especially if its cash.
