Just wondering how many out there can remember seeing it at the theaters, back in the DAY.

I saw it at the Elgin St. theater in downtown Ottawa. Thought it was the Greatest movie I had ever seen. Went with a friend and his older brother.

I was 11 years old, living in winnipeg, when it was released when it came out - I kept track of this - I saw it 11 times in various theatres there...on day a friend and i sat through it twice!
Of course, back in those days, just before the 'megaplex' movies stayed in theatres for months and months (I think SW was playing for a year and a half) rather than weeks like now...

This is possibly the only movie I do recall remembering where I first watched it. Watched it at the theatre in Gravenhurst the night before I headed off to university at UofT. Next night the first Frosh event we had was to troop off and see Star Wars.

The first Star Wars I saw was in a small theatre in Burlington. I saw the Empire Strikes Back at an old "movie palace" the University in Toronto in 70mm. WAY COOL! Both of these theatres are now long gone.

The reality is that mostly young people go to the cinema.

I remember that we made the trek from the little theatres in Burlington to see it at the old Tivoli theatre in Hamilton.   WOW.

That was the only time I ever went to see the same movie for a second time in the same week.

As a kid in the exact demographic that Geoge Lucas was shooting for (and a serious nerd to boot  ) I was in absolute heaven....

Cheers

I walked out as a kid thought it was stupid then... still think it's stupid... I realise I am in the minority.

My world had already been rocked by a little know film by Brian Depalma called.

Phantom Of the Paradise...

I certainly agree with you on that one Ronald!!!
Still have a rather unmolested LP of the sountrack.
I believe that a good chunk of the music was written by one of the stars of the show, munchkin, Paul Williams!

A rather dark version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show........
