Just got my Unity Monster Link interconnects today and I'm wondering if there is something with my hearing tonight. Not related to the interconnects I don't think or is there?

I switched out my old Monster Interlink 300 and replaced them with the new Unity Monster Links and found ...

not a noticable difference BUT before switching and listening with the old interconnects, I found without moving the volume switch from prior listening sessions, the sounds/volume I was hearing was noticably lower. Could it be like a cold coming on and my ears are getting "stuffed" and thus lower volume and can't hear any difference?

I have an Unity Solid link hooked to another CDP and the old Monsters were replaced by those earlier and I did hear a difference.

Without me plugging and unplugging interconnects, does anyone out there have informative or descriptive info they can share that tells me the difference in their own opinions (to avoid confrontations) between the Unity Monster Link and the Unity Solid Link?

I realize my CDPs may also affect my comparisons and maybe in time I'll
do the plugging and unplugging.

I guess the best candidate to answer this question would be Omer?

Repeating the same swap is really what called for to get to the bottom of it. There not likely much if any actual level difference, yet some aspect of the sound (difference) may be responsible for the impression.

new cables need time to settle down after having been moved. they also need time to burn in to reach their expected performance levels.
i'm not trying to be controversial, i'm just stating facts from experience.

Thanks for the replies.

I wanted to avoid mentioning the "burnin " as it is covered in another thread. I will report back in a while after a period to see if there is a difference.

A big factor I think is my ears at this time as the volume in life is lower either that everyone os speaking softer to me

Do they seem to be avoiding making any sudden movements around you too??? If so then perhaps they know something about you that we don't (yet!).

Yeah, that's a safe bet.
The Solid Link uses solid copper conductors, whereas the Monster Link uses stranded. Both are twisted pair designs, however, the Solid Link has more copper content, and may be a better match to the components that it's currently hooked up to versus the cable it replaced. This may explain why the difference heard was noticeable compared to your recent cable swap.
After a period of time, the Monster Link will smoothen out somewhat. It is a warmer cvable than the Solid Link, has a "more rounded sound" to it, ideally suited to electronics that tend to be sterile sounding.

I got my volume back :!: I think it was me too tired last night or maybe the cables were literally not fully warmed up. I had them in my briefcase (I just got them delivered to my office just so some of you don't think I'm crazy and carry audio cables around with me  ) and swapped them when I got home.

Does temperature affect the sonic characteristics?

I'm glad I'm not loosing my hearing.
