Has anyone here seen or heard the new Paradigm Defiance line of subwoofers?

https://www.paradigm.com/defiance-subwoofers/index.php

The X-series is made in Canada, and the less expensive V-series in China. All around, they seem to be very reasonably priced. They are a ported design, I would think sealed might have been a better choice.

Thoughts?

Couldn't agree more.

I'm sure there are excellent quality ported design subs........I just haven't heard any.

Sealed vs ported. Always an interesting discussion.

I prefer ported subs for HT use at home. I built one of mine, and commissioned a CAMMER to build the 2nd.

I prefer sealed subs for music in cars. I have built several of those over the years, including my latest - a JL 10TW1 in a very small sealed box.

I have seen excellent sealed subs for HT at home (Paradigm Servo 15 comes to mind) and lots of ported ones (SVS, Hsu etc).

The new Paradigm subs look interesting. I'd love a 15 some year...

Paradigm has certainly made a lot of subs over the years, and seem to know what the're doing, be it low end budget subs or high end ubber expensive subs. I owned a ps1200 ported bandpass sub and I liked it a lot. I now have a servo15 mk2. Sealed sub and it is amazing. I'm wondering, do the defiance subs come with port bungs? That would give you the best of both worlds.

I'm using a Seismic 12 and it is a great little sub ... I've had my eye out for a Servo 15v2, but don't know if I'm ready to commit to that ... the Seismic is really good and is very compact, and I usually use it for movies, not music, where the 15s benefits would shine.

Thanks. I am loving my new Totem Kin sub in the small room system and now want a sub for the larger room with the TV.

I only really want it for AV so a ported design is OK. Would love to buy from another Canadian company and I always like Paradigm products.

These actually look nice too (like the Totem). The cheaper line down from these new Paradigms are not as good looking.

The V series starts at $499 (8") - $699 (10") - $799 (12").

The X series start at $1249 (10") - $1649 (12") - $1849 (15").

To me, those prices sound very reasonable, but it all depends on the quality of sound. I have a difficult time thinking Paradigm would get it wrong, they have been doing this for a long time.

The servo isn't really that big, approx 21×18×22 (HWD) but bring a friend if you buy one, 114lbs. It's almost invisible next to my Hsu vtf15h mk2, which is huge.

Keep that eye out for the Servo 15.

I heard one at a friend's house once in Brampton. We were in another room working on something and I suddenly stood up and immediately walked out of the room and towards the HT.

It was THAT impactful from 30 feet away that it stole my attention.

I did not know what he had in there, but as soon as he told me I knew what it was etc.

A great HT sub. Really great!

For HT, Paradigm for sure would be on my short list (& will be when I set up a small HT setup). I have heard a number of their subs for HT & the amount of bass they can get from even small sealed enclosures is impressive. The option of PBK is also great to have for sub integration.

I just happened to come across the info on these the other day & my first thought is the new series looks cheap, but it may be a case of looking better in person.
