The idea is NOT a review of the music per say...only on the quality of the vinyl pressing...which, in this case, could not be better!!!

I'm thinking it might be helpful to a degree if we all shared our impressions of new LP's purchased...if you know what I mean!!!

*edited to include important pressing information*

Some recent purchases:

Phoebe Bridgers - Stranger in the Alps
Dead Oceans, US, DOC142
Not very good, listenable but many clicks and occasional pops. Tried 2 copies then gave up.

Chet Baker -Chet
Riverside Records, US, RLP-1135
Terrible. Microphone distortion or something like that in few places. Numerous clicks and pops. Tried 3 copies all with same problems.

The National - Sleep Well Beast
4AD, UK, 4AD0020LPE
Fantastic pressing, on colored vinyl no less. Absolutely quiet and good dynamics (as much as possible in a "modern" recording).

Natalie Prass - The Future and the Past
ATO Records, US, ATO0421
Pretty decent, a few minor clicks but nothing too bad.

That's good...exactly to the point...I won't be buying 'Chet'!!! Thanks.

Would like to know if you clean your vinyl before playing it...and if so...how?

Yes I do clean new vinyl: Record Doctor V RCM with UHF Record Cleaning fluid applied with Tonar Wet Goat brush, then a deionized water rinse. None of that helped the bad LPs.

This is a very worth while thread and its about time we had just "one" as a benchmark....How ever if I was to rate my Timber Timbre-Hot Dreams experience I would call it a noisy train wreck while others had great success. So does one example declare an outcome...

It would be even more helpful if the labels were listed as well (Mofi, Music Matters, Pure Pleasure, Music on Vinyl, Speakers Corners and others)

With something like "Chet", and many other records out there for that matter, it's going to be pretty important to identify the specific pressing of that record as there are about a million of them out there.

Foreign pressings have always been and generally continue to be of a higher quality than domestics. I sought them out and paid a premium for them in my younger days.

Best new LP Ive bought so far . Who live at the Fillmore East. The bass solo in My Generation far exceeds anything they have done after that. The whole lp is a fresh recap of their music .
