I've been looking around a little and the idea of a linear tracking tonearm has really piqued my curiosity. Besides Kuzma and Clearaudio, who's making linear tracking tonearms these days?? I seem to recall one of the site dealers having one, but for the life of me can't recall who it was.

Yes Kuzma makes an air bearing linear tracker, Clearaudio make a few mechanical linear trackers at various price points. There is also Thales who make a couple of pivoted arms who's headshell rotates to stay tangential to the grooves as the arm tracks across the lp. Reed also makes one, the 5C that is laser guided and is a "pivoted" tangential tracking arm.

Eminent Technology still manufacture and support their 2.5 arm.

I use one on my VPI HW-19 MK 4; I really like it.

Look for a Advanced Analog MG1 air-bearing tangential tonearm...incredible value for the money.

There are a few of us here on CAM that have one and will never sell it!!! 8)

+1 for the Mg-1 tonearm. Best value but does require a bit of diy skills for air supply. The Thales is really cool, great idea.

My vote is for the Eminent technology two and 2.5. When I use mine I get a Soundstage like nothing else! That is a bonus of the linear arms.
Friend of mine has the MG one and it looks like a very capable arm as well.

Wow! That Reed is one beautiful arm! I'd like to try a radial/linear but my budget only extends as far as the Garrard Zero100.

had one here glenn, a few weeks ago. however, it has since sold.
it's a very interesting arm concept. most, if not all linear trackers rely on the grooves in the lp to guide the arm across the record via the cantilever.
the reed has a backwards firing laser that keeps the arm perpendicular to the grooves as it tracks through the lp. so the arm is guiding the stylus, not vice versa. the result is a massive three dimensional soundstage. it's quite impressive.

here's a pic of it on the reed muse 1 table. 3rd table in from the front.

That might be Grant Fidelity and the Consonance LT-1 Linear Tracking Air Bearing Tonearm. Around $1,900 factory direct.

Might I also suggest that you check out the trans-fi terminator before you decide.
It's a really good value and an under-hyped arm. I've used one for years.... just put it up against an ET-2 and it did not embarrass itself, was very competitive while not being "better" per se.

none of the clearaudio or kuzma would be drop in. i'd really be surprized if any of them would be.
I have a Thales coming next week, I'll have a look at the mount and position, not likely though.

PSA - Vic is not producing the terminator any longer although they can still be purchased second hand of course. I believe he's offered to sell the operation if anyone's interested.
