Hey guys,

I recently posted for advice on some bookshelf speakers and got some great recommendations here. I went with a pair of LS50s as I found a great deal on them and couldn't pass it up. I've had them for about a week now and love them and need a center channel to go with them. Most people seem to agree that a 3rd one would be the best bet.

Another option would be the KEF R200C as I could get a good deal on that also. As I can't buy a single LS50 from the shop where I would get it I'd have to buy a pair and try and sell the extra one hoping that maybe someone else is in the same boat as me and be willing to take it.

Is it worth it? Or should I just get the R200C?

Thanks.

there have been a number of single LS50's for sale on ebay. KEF Canada also sells single LS50's however they are more expensive.

Or just buy a pair and sell the single to another LS50 owner who, like yourself, needs a centre.

Just keep in mind the lower sensitivity of the ls50. If you're using a standard avr for the front channel the 200 would be better. Centre speakers are also tailored for front channel information - check their specs.

I would opt for the 200C as it is designed for lateral dispersion, much needed in a center channel. I had a 100C and it was superb, almost the equal of my Wharfedale 9.5CM.

unless you have them very wide, a single for the centre is perfectly acceptable.

you could post a wanted ad for one LS50 and see if you get a response.

I think Audio Eden has one for sale as a single.

Good luck!

The single at Audio Eden is White with the blue centre. Is that the same colour as you have? Does the colour matter to you?

That's what I'm considering doing I'm just worried about finding a buyer for the extra one.

Color does matter to me. Mine are black and I'd want it to match for sure.

I'm tempted as it would avoid the hassle finding a buyer for the extra LS50 I'd have. I've just been reading that people have had good results with 3 identical speakers making up the front.

The LS50 would make a great center speaker. It is a point source design and would have very good dispersion for a wide seating arrangement. It’s also a perfect match with your mains to have the best tonal consistency. But theoretically, the R200C should have better power handling and maybe even better dynamics.

I just sold my set of LS50 not too long ago.
I was also planning on finding a single one as a center channel.
Easiest and fastest way is still to buy a set at discounted price or used and advertise a « single one ».

By the way... I just bought today a set of Bose 201V...
I have a 120’’ screen projector but did not have speakers anymore.
Never owned and really liked their product before.
Paid 50$ used (and in perfect condition) and installed them in my HT room while I’m shopping for a new set of good speakers... I was not expecting much but...

Watched a movie tonight.
No sub. No center.
Wow. I was totally shocked how good they sounded.
Seriously... those 201V were quite impressive.
For the 50$ I paid... i consider it now a hell of deal!!

Good luck with your search...
