As usual, the Flaming Lips put on a stellar performance last night.
One of the best shows Saskatoon has ever hosted.

They're fantastic outdoors! saw them a couple years ago at Artpark. They're playing the Elora outdoor festival this year too, my son won tickets for the weekend, a week before his wedding. I'm hoping he decides he's too busy and passes the tickets to me.
The confetti cannon....

Yeah, it probably did, and if you take a quick look around that you'll see even the biggest jazz festivals (Montreaux, New Orleans, etc) are no longer exclusively jazz. It's just not something that is sustainable any more.

^ That was awesome. We used to live in the Rex practically.

Re: the Lips - I don't see a conflict, they have roots all over the musical map.

Yes, but they supplement it or it would fail. Flaming Lips are genre benders anyways.

I usually go to the big shows, they end about 10:30, then I go to the small lounges with the Jazz afterwords.

After the Lips last night there was a fantastic Jazz trio at the James Hotel lounge.
Accordion, acoustic guitar, and a really cool electric upright bass.

Next week I am going to Bonobo and Deerhoof.
