How many pairs of headphones do you own and what types of music do you use them for?

Just a pair of Sennheiser HD800S for headphones, before that I had the standard model. They don't get much use but I keep them around in case a speaker apocalypse occurs in my listening room or my wife finally asks for some peace and quiet.

Too many :D

I listen to headphones an average of two hours a day...even when I travel. I have been through many sets to arrive at the “keepers”. I listen mainly to female vocalists from a variety of genres but dabble in every genre:

The Keepers:

Sennheiser HD800
Oppo PM-1
AKG K812
MrSpeakers Aeon FlowOpen
Stax 2701 set

I feel fortunate to own them and each brings something different to the table and I alternate as I feel the mood.

A lot, but nothing exciting: a pair of Grado SR60s with 80 pads that are not comfortable, 2 pairs of Sony MDR-7506 for recording gigs and monitoring in noisy places, Koss PortaPros for casual listening while I'm doing dishes or walking around the neighbourhood (my fourth pair on a very hassle-free free lifetime warranty), an old pair of Audio Technica M30s, a pair of Panasonic earbuds, some noise-canceling Sennheiser PXC-250 that are surprisingly effective on airplanes, and a pair of entry-level Sennheiser on-ears, something like the hd201s (edit: actually hd437).

I like the PortaPros and the 7506 are good for location recording, but I could take or leave the rest.

AKG812
Audeze LCD-X
Grado HF2
Grado 125
And a pair of AKG3003 when I want to really rock :D

I sold off - Senn HD598, Grado 80 (highly modified - woody cups, J$ headband, mods to the drivers, replaced cable), Beyer DT770's, Noble X iems, ,Noble Wizard Savant iems.

Have - Noble 5 iems (became the Dulce Bass model in their current lineup)

Mostly a speaker user, but for trains and planes the Noble iems are excellent.

I own a pair of B&W P7's that I received for free through Air Miles. They work well with my iPod classic. I prefer to listen through speakers so my headphones are only used when I'm mobile with my iPod.

I have a few, all for different purposes:

Audeze LCD 3F - main rig
Denon AH-D7200 work rig
AKG N40 - in ears, on the go
Shure SE215 - work bag for on the go
PSB M4U 2 - portable over ears (can't bear them in the summer, but great for on the go, plus ANC)
Shure SRH840 recording

At various points I've owned as many as 10 pair, but if I don't have a regular purpose for them, I end up selling - I was debating getting a pair of HD 800 or HD 800S to share my main rig but wondered if I'd switch cans as often as I think i would...

I have listened to some pretty good ones but I don't have anything exotic or expensive (all are acquired under $1K/pair):

(1) KOSS ESP-950 electrostatic (w/ the accompanied E/90 electromagnetic energizer) in my bedroom
(2) Audio Technica ATH-W1000 Sovereign (w/ a matching Yamamoto Soundcrafts headphone amp.) in my main system
(3) Denon AH-D5000
(4) Sennheiser HD-580 Precision (w/ HD600 grills/cups and Cardas headphone cable)
(5) Shure E4C IEM
(6) Sony MDR-1000x mk. I Bluetooth wireless noise cancelling for commuting

I will probably get a pair of magnetic planar headphones but are still pondering what to get (don't want to spend too much for the one(s) that I craved for since I listen to speakers mostly at home).

EDIT: Will probably end up with a pair of the upcoming QUAD planar magnetic headphones. They say these are voiced according to the original ESL "57". We shall see...
