Hi,

I'm looking for something to plug into a power bar, to provide surge protection. There are a couple I have found (shunyata venom defender & blue circle yalu bulala)....just wondering if anyone has experience with these, or if there are other suggestions out there......

I've used the Yalu Bulala and recommended it to others. Funny you want to plug it into a power bar I used the YB to protect a whole circuit and employ 3 Hubbell cryo / hospital grade duplexes so I could plug power cords directly into the wall.

I have my amps plugged into a power center (no filtering, etc). The manufacturer says they can handle a surge, but I'd rather not risk it. The yalu's just look so cheaply made. Is that silicone on the top of them?

I also use the YB to protect the circuit with the amp plugged directly in to the wall outlet.
So far I have lost 2 YB's to thunderstorms, so they seem to work.

I'm using a YB in both setups. Last year the hydro went on the fritz, surging on & off, etc. Wasn't home at the time but heard from those who were that it went pretty crazy. Was a little worried when I got home but checked both systems out & they were fine. Both of the YB's had blown, tripping the breaker. Some of the neighbours had lost some of there electronics due to the surges, so was rather grateful the YB's had done the trick. I normally unplug my system when I know there is a storm coming but this wasn't storm related & was just out of the blue.

Thanks folks.

I will have to give blue circle some more thought. I should probably research the big power conditioners as well.

Probably best to do it at the main panel.
Code approved.No insurance hassle.
