I am one week into my trial subscription with Tidal. I have been with Spotify for several years. What I am hearing with Tidal is a very forward sounding upper midrange and an extremely brittle upper end presentation (cymbal crashes). I do hear a slightly larger soundstage with Tidal but prefer the smoother presentation of Spotify. Also I find the selection very limited to the genres of music I access(rock, blues, jazz).I do not think I will continue with Tidal once my trial period is up. Is anyone else hearing what I am experiencing? PS . I am using the high Rez version of Tidal and Spotify.

I'm running a Bluesound node 2 into a Chord 2qute and am not experiencing anything harsh or brittle. Haven't compared Spotify directly but overall the sound is excellent that I'm getting from tidal.

Check your settings to ensure you're actually getting the Hifi version as it may well default to the lower bitrates depending on what you're running.

No such issues here. Maybeit's what I am now used to. But, Tidal hi-res played to music buddies gets approval - on a simple system with the desktop version [wifi] on a laptop, to a mid-range DAC.
Is it your gear that 'deforms' the sound?

Streaming Tidal for 2 years now through Aurender units with Pink Faun LAN Isolator and very rarely do I can hear a difference with my riped files. I would say that when I started streaming a couple years ago, it was frequent that some of the recordings on Tidal weren't top quality, especially older 80 and downwards.... Never tried Spotify because the integration of Tidal with Aurender App. is nearly perfect. I now stream 50% of the time if not more.

I am now using Deezer and never tried Tidal. I was a staunch supporter of Spotify but after comparing audio quality through a Mac Mini and Musical Paradise MP-D2 I've given the nod to Deezer. I'd try Tidal if they offered no string tryouts like Deezer and Spotify do. I know Spotify uses OGG and Deezer uses MP3, does Tidal stream strictly FLAC or do they stream something else ?

Have not experienced this problem with streaming Tidal musics via Audirvana Plus on a MacMini.

Not me comparing flac on my hd and the streaming sound similar.
The pressing they use are not allways the same as mine.
My andreas vollenweider are far better than tidal's one for example.

As you know, remasters are almost allways bad compared to the original edition because of the loudnesswar.

Tidal have 45000000 songs , its 15000000 more than spotify.

Each service have theig own exclusivity and you do not have access to all the music.
Type peter gabriel, you have a very limited choice available. Artist have almost nothing with streaming. They give to 5he streaming platform what they want.

Friend of mine have applemusic and tidal. He find tidal better sounding than applemusic.

I stopped tidal.

No deep bass, forward mid and the high are fuzzy....
20$ per months for that? not for me

I tried the high resolution compared to my cd player...guess what my cd player is better

I have no issues with the sound quality of Tidal streaming from an Aurender and Auralic Aries. It is very close to the redbook cd’s in sound quality.

+1

Been using Deezer since the early days. Sounds a lot better than Spotify, and they offer FLAC as well, but I think it's only overseas for now.

Tidal, as good, as it is, isn't worth the extra $ for me. I'd rather buy physical media over the $20/month to Tidal.
