A warped sense of Canadiana sentimentality came over me and I decided to buy the last Pono the local LD had in stock when I saw it sitting forelornely in the case with a $149.99 price sticker on it. New & not a customer return. It's sitting there charging up while I type this. If nothing else it'll be a decent portable player. Not alot to go wrong with it with no moving parts so will most likely be used as a bedside player for as long as it lasts.

Apparently about 33k of them sold. Anyone regularly using one? Any love for Pono?

This definitely falls under the new toys are fun category.

So I've copied over the only 5 albums I have on my laptop and must say it sounds pretty darned good just via my Kef IEM M200's. A big step up from my LG G4 which has been my only other portable mp in recent years. Very good stereo imaging. The only hi-res file is Art Blakey's Free For All and it does make me want to see what more this thing can do so I think a new set of cables that will hook it into the rig is in order because what I'm hearing via the Kefs is that the dac in the Pono is better than the Cambridge DacMagic.

Best term to describe it is smoooooth.

Hi, I'm glad you're enjoying your Pono player. I love mine and for the price you paid I'm sure you'll get a lot of pleasure. I use mine mostly as a source with my Soundmatters Foxlo and dual Foxl speakers as my travel system. It's a lot of joy in a small package. Sounds good with headphones too.

All the best to you,

Don

Hi. I bought a used one two years ago for more than you paid. Make sure you do the update to allow DSD play amongst other things. It is a fine portable player. I use it mostly during travel and in my car plugged directly into the radio. My car has never sounded this good. In balanced mode it plays a proper set of cans really well. Enjoy.

Hey filbert96, is the DSD update still available? If you so can you point me in the general direction to find it.

I picked up a used PONO last year and love it. I would love it more if it could play DSD.

cheers,

Paul

Cruising the Pono website this a.m. I came upon a 1.0.6 update and downloaded & installed it. Seems to have installed correctly. Here's the link & install instructions for newbies like me - easy as cracking a beer. There's a user named slimpants that seems to be a resident Pono guru there.

Having said that I wonder if update 1.0.6 includes the DSD update? hmmm more reading to do.

This might already be common knowledge but if not: it seems as though 128 GB is not the usable micro SD limit for Pono. There's a thread that's mostly about transferring lps but the poster mentions he's using a 400 GB card that's working well.

It is common for external storage to exceed the specs of a device. The 128 GB spec of the player may have been the largest tested with the device when it was released. But saying that, it does not mean all Micro SD cards greater than 128 GB will work.

I'm currently using a 128 G Micro SD card with no issues in my BB Z10. The spec said the max was 32G

London Drugs in New Westminster had 2 in stock when I walked in this morning. Now they have none!

Christmas shopping in March!

All I went for was Glucosamine.

 That'll make someone happy.

FYI - if they don't have one in your local store you can look online to see where they do have one and they'll ship it to your local store.

Decided I needed to increase the sound quality over the Kef earbuds and Visions have had these at the silly price for some time. I knew there was a reason I kept that ASL tube buffer I bought a few month's ago. Direct from the Pono the 400i's are a little forward (but just out of the box so will probably change a bit so I've read) but with the ASL buffer it's a more relaxed sound with a bigger soundstage. They're both good but different flavours.

I want one. Sadly no London Drugs within 2000km of my house. And they refuse to ship. So sad.

There might be none left now. Just went online and it says N/A. I must have caused a run on them!

You Westerners are lucky. Definitely would have purchased at that price if this place existed in Ontario...
