I have an item advertised for $999 and for local transaction and pickup only. I received this response:

"im willing to pay $1250 if its in a good condition,i won't be able to pick up,that is why im paying more than expected to cover the shipping cost which is $80 or less to virgina kindly send me your paypal or interac email so i can make payment."

What do you guys think? Is the buyer legit or scammer?

I'd send him my PayPal account number and tell him to save even MORE money and pay me as a 'friend'...

If he ponies up then you know it isn't a scam...

I am concerned that he wants to pay more than what I am asking plus shipping cost which he determined himself. Also what's the possibility of him turning around and say that the item was "not in good condition" and he wants a refund?

Forgive my ignorance, guys, but what does it mean to pay 'as a friend?'

Means he is 'giving' you money as a 'friend or family member'...not buying anything.

He saves the normal 4.5% International fee that PayPal would have normally been owed on a 'purchase'.

Most importantly it means that he is no longer 'protected' as a buyer and has no recourse through PayPal if he is not happy with the transaction...

and if we're referring to the revox looks like you were initially asking 1100 and then dropped price. you said 999 but closest listings are 899. maybe some clarification?

so is he offering more than asking prior to price drop or....????

No it's for the item I am selling on Kijiji. I am asking the opinion of knowledgeable members here.

That run-on sentence is chock-full of red flags.

(1) Paying over and above the asking price. If the shipping charges are $80.00 then why is the buyer willing to pony up $250.00 more than the asking price?

(2) The key word "kindly". This word is a staple of scammers, Nigerian and otherwise.

The only thing missing here is "my agent will pick it up".

Run away.

have him pay through Western Union. If it is a scam he'll go away. I have had US buyers use it as I don't have a PayPal account anymore.
