I was at a record show this weekend in Toronto.
I was there for about 2 hours.
I noticed all the vendors but one looked over 50 years of age.
Only 2 vendors had women with them.
Only 2 women for customers.
All the other customers looked over 40 years old but a few younger.

I'd bet the farm that closely reflects the demographics herein...it also describes just about every independent record store I've walked into over the past 10 years...

I'm guessing you were at the Etobicoke one on Sunday. Is that right?

Every GTA area show I've been to tends to skew to those demographics except the Downtown Record show on Broadview, North of Danforth. That one tends to have younger people and a very different crowd than the other GTA shows e.g. the Mississauga show.

However, most vendors tend to be male regardless. But some do bring their partners along.

I've been going to record shows since 1988 or so. I think I've only ever seen one female vendor i.e. only her doing the selling and that was pre-94.

I have noticed the same thing; but the older demographic and lack of female attendees means that record shows aren't overrun with 20-something man-boys dripping with lethal concentrations of weaponized Axe Body Spray, so there is an upside.

Yup.

It's a Tinder 'Swipe Left' at those shows. Not that anyone over 50 knows what that even means.

Probably because most folks over fifty know how to find a date without a computer. Lol

Most might know lots of people but being introduced to a lady or somehow meeting one by chance or through friends does not happen often. These dating sites thrive for a good reason and it's people of all ages including the after millenials that use them.

It is kind of weird, isn’t it? I was at the Etobicoke show as well. Women like music just as much as men. And women like to collect all sorts of things. Yet, men are overwhelmingly in the majority when it comes to record collecting. One thing I will say is that on balance, men seem to be more obsessive with their hobbies than women. And record collectors are an obsessive bunch. I chuckle when I overhear conversations at these shows that delve into the absolute minutiae of music and record collecting. Seems to be a very make affectation.

As for age, that is pretty easy. Records appeal to the nostalgic sensibilities of the people who grew up with them. I find it so cool when kids are interested in records because there is no nostalgic appeal.
