Yeah, just heard that, too. Major bummer! He sure went out in a blaze of glory, though, and was extremely creative right to the end. A model for us all and he will be missed.

Sad, but he definitely left his mark.

RIP Gordon,
Thanks for the unifying CBC show last year
Talking for the native people was a great thing too
Thanks for songs, poetry, etc...
He was strong knowing he had to fight an terrifying enemy.
Tragically Hip won't be the same anymore....

Will definitely miss the intelligent lyrics created by Mr. Downie.
Not many rock bands have bothered to conjure up incredible images in their lyrics such as the likes of Nautical Disaster, to name one example.

Sad day indeed, but glad for the days he spent on this planet.

The first and last time I saw him play in person was indeed up close and personal. It was 1987 and my friends and I were sitting in "The Cave" (student lounge) at lunchtime at Red River College in Winnipeg. They came on stage and started playing about 5 feet away from our table. At about the third song in we stopped chatting and just sat back and enjoyed their set. I clearly remember a friend of mine saying "These guys are pretty good".

R.I.P. Gord, you will be missed, I don't think I ever went more than a month in the last 30 years not listening to a Hip cd. Sometimes having several cd's in heavy rotation.

Gordon was a uniquely talented person. I loved that he sung about Canada and never moved from it!

He will be missed dearly.

RIP Gord

Someone at our production meeting this morning informed us before it got started.
One of the girls across the table was sobbing and everyone was silent for about 20 or 30 seconds.
I figured they were all "playing" a Hip tune in their head.
I was playing "Grace, Too".
Very touching moment. He meant so much to so many.
The fight is over, rest Mr. Downie. Too soon.

A stand up guy in every aspect of his life. Very rare in this day and age.
