I had one channel go out on my Beard P-100 tube amp a while ago so I finally took her in for a repair. She got six new caps, a couple of resistors and a weak tube replaced. Unfortunately the caps were on a board that was difficult to get to so they had to unsolder most of the wiring to the main board to get to it. Parts cost - $106, labour - $374. :( I hope I don't have to take her in again anytime soon. Plus she weighs over 80 lbs.

I got the amp back today (took a sick day from work as they are closed on the weekend) and it sounds better than before, more detailed. She still sounds smooth with a wide soundstage and powerful bass but the sound is a little more refined now. I still prefer my Ray Lumley M100's but it is close now. It is a good idea to take in an old amp for a check up even if it is still functioning as aging parts may fail after 30 years. And with new and improved parts they can sound as good or better than new.

Albert, you had me going. I thought your topic had something to do with obi56's getting a trim. I've never heard a Beard amp but I'll bet they're special.

Not updating these old amps can have catastrophic damage to your speakers too....

Is your P-100 a original or Mark II version.

I've heard they're a nice sounding amp! If the tech replaced all the electrolytic caps you're good for another 20 years.

I actually took the title as Albert getting sleeve tattoo’s, hard part haircut, plaid shirt with skin tight jeans and trading in his Caddy for a single speed bicycle! Albert the hipster! 8)

My Beard is a mark I version. I certainly hope he replaced all the caps as it could be expensive to do again.

As for my own beard I am growing one out and have recently got an Elektra MCAL lever espresso machine and a Compak k10 wbc grinder. I even bought a Reg Barber tamper with a purple heart handle and a nice maple Rattleware knock box. I made a lid for it and bought a silicone mat for the top for tamping. But I draw the line at replacing the caddy.

That was a total hipster click bait title.

Lest derail the thread to the topic of craft beer! LOL

 That would be interesting too! At least my Russian girls don't have beards. :D

Here is my hipster kitchen with all my coffee toys (except the coffee roaster in the basement). Oh and a snap of my Beard on my diy amp stand version 2.

Nice looking stuff!
Enjoy yet another new toy. Coffee and music definitely mix in the daytime! Our company had a client in HI that sells pounds of Kona direct from his plantation (If you're into that) by subscription.

Here's my beard:
