This is kind of a follow-up to a recent post of mine about "common" lengths, but it's a different question/premise entirely.

I have a 100 meter spool of 5N pure silver rod [24 AWG, 0.5mm] that I'm just sitting on for the moment [I was going to make a power cord out of it, but I'm conflicted].
I'm trying to sell the wire complete on the rod, but it seems that's a non-starter, so here goes:

I can make a straight [not bi-wired] 5.5' pair of 12 AWG speaker wire [or longer if the AWG was smaller] out of the silver rod I have, but I don't know if that's a good idea.
Is this a non-starter due to the wonky length? Or gauge? Or silver?
Help!

Hi Nawaz, Would you consider making interconnect cables with silver rca's?

Hey Nawaz

The length would probably work for a number of users but a bit on the short side for some.

The 12AWG is fine.

Silver.....comes at a premium $.....but appeals to small few.

My thought is if you made the speaker cable pair, it would have to priced at an attractive enough level to get buyers interested, but that might end up lower than the material cost and the labour to make them.

Hi,

I am trying to puzzle out the factors. Does the silver wire/rod have any insulation or is it bare?

Cheers,
David Neice

As per the FS Listing...
"It is 0.5mm diameter [24 AWG] 5N pure bare silver wire."

Yup, silver really is hit or miss, and I think it's a miss as speaker wire [for an unknown like me, anyways].
By the time I put decent ends on and insulate it properly, it's $700 for a 5.5' pair of speaker wire. I'm sure it would sound fantastic, but eeep, that's a big chunk of change for straight 12 AWG wire.

I’d just try a pair. Having tried more complex arrangements, we have migrated to a pair of single 24g solid strands pulled from CAT5 cable.
